We should file this away and remember this next time he is in town. If you can tear yourself away from the photos to read Maxim's NFL preview story, you'll find this love note from NFL Network host Rich Eisen to the Texans: "Houston is a really ugly place, and this team is even uglier." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3325878 I'm not saying H-town is the most beautiful place in the world, but why would he feel he has to pile on like that?
I don't really put much stock in what anybody who hosts Sportscenter, or used to host it, has to say about anything having to do with the world, ever.
fine with me..if that discourages some more yankees from moving down here...then Im all for it. funny thing is...I hear this all the time...how supposedly ugly Houston is..but if you look out over the city from above ground level...the amount of greenery is surprising for such a large city...I think it looks great. We have a small section of skyscrapers..but the rest of it has lots of trees that mask the amount of people and buildings that there is here. I guess Houston is a acquired taste....kinda like getting used to the Houston summers.
I'm from Houston and I love my hometown. I'm glad to be home and there are a lot of great things about the city. Houston is an ugly city and there is no getting around it.
Truth hurts. It's like having ugly ass parents though, it's not your fault and you love 'em regardless.
I never thought driving the freeways were very attractive. Too much growth in a short time. The city is flat. I like the Downtown skyline though. And I love all the sports facilities. They're the best in the business - IMO When Eisen insulted the Texans though, he went too far.
Somebody, please plant a freakin tree next to a freeway to cover up those damn strip centers and that would go a long way. You'd think there were no trees in this city, judging by the freeways.
Very good point. We just moved to the 18th floor of an office building in the Galleria (I see you NJ Rocket) and I was shocked to see how beautiful the city looks from up here. I do disagree about the skyscrapers though. I think we have three areas that could pass for downtown skylines in other cities. Downtown, Galleria, and the Medical Center. And I love all three. That's what makes me love Houston so much, the skyscrapers. This is probably true as well. I like Houston because it has personality. My brother in-law visited Houston for the first time two weekends ago for my wedding and he loved it. This is coming from a guy who lives in freaking Santa Cruz, CA. It doesn't get much more beautiful than that part of the country.
I wonder if he meant in general or just where he stayed. There are nice areas of Houston, but there are some really bad areas just like any other major city. The thing that makes Houston possibly look worse than it really is are the strip malls I think.
From the freeways, Houston is ugly. That's the plain truth. Get up close in residential areas and that changes. Post Script: We do have some fine-a$$ women, though.
It's the humidity. Seriously, it's good for the skin. That's why even our older women are hotter than a lot of other cities younger women.
I've had visitors come who were unaccustomed to the city, and as I'm showing them around, they'd point to the Galleria area and say, "Is that downtown?" I'd tell them no and they'd point to the Med Center, "Is that it?" They're used to cities that grew in a previous era, when there was one center which was downtown. The multi-center nature of Houston tricks them.
Houston is the ugliest city in America after Detroit, there's no way around that. Strip malls, freeways, sprawl, flat, polluted. No scenery whatsoever. Also, with regards to the Texans, they are an ugly team with an atrocious O-line.
