So, many of you know that there are two religious holidays in Islam and that they are not set to any specific date. Islam goes on the lunar calendar and the lunar year is typically 10 days less every year. Hence, every once in a while Ramadan will start and end(which signifies Eid) will fall around such a day as September 11th. I know that many, if not all, Clutchfans are not ignorant enough to believe that the Muslims are celebrating 9/11. However, I'm sure that there will be a few morons around town that will be propagating this stance. I just hope that if any of you see this happening or hear this sot of jargon that you correct it immediately. In the past it has been a concern for security for Muslim communities. Especially on a holiday such as Eid where families will be going out and enjoying. There will be young children and women that are at danger from one of those "morons" that think that they are more patriotic than Jack Bauer(I love 24 btw). I really hope that we don't have a tragedy on our hands this time around. I really hope that we as a community can move forward from the tragedy that happened 9 years ago. We are stronger and more united because of it.
i thought ramadan was typically in the winter- i seem to remember Hakeem fasting during the day, during the season, sometime in february?
If the calendar loses 10 days per year, it would lose enough days to fall from February to September in around 15 years.
Apparently some church in Florida is planning to hold a "International Burn A Quran Day" on 9/11 as well. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/07/29/florida.burn.quran.day/index.html Eid, 9/11 anniversary, and this "Burn a Quran" event on the same day has the potential to be quite problematic. Let's hope Eid is not on 9/11 and this "Burn A QUran" event does not attract as many followers as the "Draw Prophet Mohammed" day did.
It's happened before in Houston: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/socialpoliticalissues/ss/sign_in_harwin_central_mall.htm Associated chron.com story: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7100241.html It's sad that even when told about why they were commemorating something on 9/11, people STILL get pissed.
There was a thread about the perfume merchant here recently. Its too bad that a coincidence of the calender could potentially lead to hate and misunderstanding.
The perfume guy's holiday is different than Eid btw. Eid is like new year. The perfume guy was mourning Ali (sAw) who is the Prophet's cousin and son-in-law, and according to Shiites, the person who SHOULD have been the first caliph. Great thread, I hope everyone reads it.
I hope that this thread will be a benefit to all the people on this forum. No matter what religion they follow or whatever the beliefs they hold.

In Arabic, it is pronounced 3eed. The '3' in that word is an Arabic letter. Go to this link and click on 'Sound' in the white box on the right. The letter can be heard as "3ain". Once you've figured out how to say 3 in 3ain, then you can say 3 in 3eed.
