    Jesus...

    a) Had long hair.
    b) Hated rich people.
“It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Luke 18:25)”
“What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul.”
    c) Seemed to be somewhat of a "New Age" thinker, 2000 years before the rat race.
"The last will be first, and the first last."

Eh. I'm not much of a believer, and I know I'm generalizing here since I'm sure there are probably some very kind Republicans. Just that the ones I meet don't seem to be the type :p So...I was wondering about thier whole faith in Jesus, since he seems to represent everything Republicans...well...dislike.

you can't really classify christians as republicans or republicans as christians. it is the religious right that gives the republicans there (bad) name.

it is the eternal debate, would jesus have been a rep or a dem?

the final answer is neither... and if he would have been a party, most likely it would have been that of libertarian.

Yes I am generalizing; but to clear things up, I did specfically put "Christian Republicans", excluding whatever atheist Republicans there are out there...

not necessarily calling you out, it just seems that the prevalent view of the republican party is that of christian conservatives, rather than the libertarian goldwater republicans that dominated the party for so many years.

    100% correct.

Jesus would have been an enemy of both major parties, in this day just like then. He definitely wouldn't be a Libertarian either. Jesus would be far out of the political mainstream as we know it and both parties would demonize him as a radical. It is nonsensical to try and slap any party label on him.

i didnt mean to say he would have been a part of the libertarian party, what i was meaning was that is the party that most closely aligns with his beliefs.

    little/no government intrusion
    little taxation
    no interaction with marriage
    ect.

I'm not saying anything about the Democrats. If anything the major mistake I may have made is not including the Democrats in this; I just kinda went along with the stereotypical "bigbusiness-but God fearing" Republican image so prevalent these days.

The point is; is it morally ignorant and hypocritical to worship Jesus if you actually do not follow his tenets and beleifs? In other words, are most of corporate/upper-crust America just paying lip service with thier "Christian" beliefs? Are certain people ignorant of what they are professing to believe in?
Is the image of Jesus misrepresented? Is America, a country "under God", actually following Jesus' mission for this Earth?

Every question you ask is "yes", except for the last one. America is not a Christian country. It is a country that has a significant professing Christian element.

as i stated, he would not have been a part of any party. though he certainly supported following the laws and paying taxes.

I'm sure both republicans and democrats were shouting "crucify him!", "crucify him!"

the verse you quote to show that jesus "hates" rich people seems a little out of context. Jesus didnt hate rich people. some of his followers happened to be very well off.

what he was against was having money as an idol over God. money can make people do crazy things. hence the saying, "money is the root of all evil." or as puffy says "mo money, mo problems" :p

when questioned by the pharasees about which was the greatest commandment, jesus replied with something along the lines of...

    1. love your God w/ all you heart, mind, and soul.
    2. love your neighbor as you would love yourself.

again, nothing about not being rich... just remember that poor people can be just as hypocritical as rich people.

however, God expects much from those who have been given much. they should give to charity and help the needy, but they shouldnt just give money away freely. thats where many people develop a misconception about rich being greedy/hypocritical. they must investigate and make sure that the money is being put to good use.

for instance, you can give a homeless person $5 and he can get a meal. or you can provide the him w/ some type of job training and he will be able to feed himself.

of the flip side. youll discover that some needy people have the wrong attitude when it comes to work. it seems as if they think theyre entitled to handouts. or they should only work as hard as the next guy. or its easier to sit on the corner and beg than to go out and earn a honest days living. jesus also extolled the virtues of hard work.

    1) What verse in the bible did that come from?
    2) Its already been established this is taken out of context
    3) Jesus was a "New Age" thinker???

i dont think jesus talked much about being affiliated w/ specific political parties.

his only agenda was fulfilling Gods plan.

i strongly believe religion and state should be kept separate bc...

    1. look at the middle east. they run a therocracy. hasnt turned out too well...

    2. it distracts from issues that concern the nation (i.e. budget, economy, debt, immigration, diplomacy...)

    3. getting involved in politics allows the religious base to be used as a pawn. (i.e. W created the office of faith based initiatives. turns out he didnt fund them but only created to office to garner votes from the religious base...)

come election day, christians, muslims, jews, buddhists, hindu, atheists... vote for who you think will help this nation--not who will push a religious agenda.

You seem to be forgetting the religious right also gives Christians a bad name.
I believe that Jesus purposely avoided giving his opinion on political issues.

"Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars"

Jesus clearly wasn't into heavy taxation, so you could say he was conservative.

then again you could say Jesus was liberal was when he drove the hagglers and the money changers out of the holy temple. He was clearly against big business. :p

The Jesus I try to follow is the One who came to the world not trying to be a Savior of earthly problems, but an example of how to live a life worthy of heaven. Jesus didn't have to give his opinions on everything. He was kind and not judgmental to the lesser people even though they were living sinful lives. He tested the snobs and the uber-religious because they needed to be taught humility.

Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and the Westboro Baptist Church could have learned a few things from that Jesus.

Contrary to what the media says, not all Christian Republicans are gay-hating, abortion clinic bombing, tree-killing, white power advocates.

    Jesus would also:

    1. Ride a mountain bike (and do some free styling)
    2. Wear a messenger bag and Birkenstocks
    3. Be Jewish
