We need to seriously consider taking a look at our options before making a big move prior to or during the draft. If we going all in for Giannis or another star, we should make sure that we are not gutting the team + giving up probably one of the last few lottery picks we may ever have. Egor Demin might not have the same flash or scoring firepower as someone like Ace Bailey, but he brings a unique skill set that’s hard to find especially at his size. He has elite court vision and his shooting form is already solid. He also has the length to impact the game on both ends of the floor and can potentially guard multiple positions and slide between the guard and wing seamlessly. This kid has raw potential and he already has a solid foundation to build on. With the right development and mentorship, I truly believe that he can become a major contributor right away. His pre-draft workouts just confirmed what I've seen from him all year. I don’t usually make these types of pre-draft threads, but this guy is special. If we’re not swinging big, we should seriously consider taking him at #10 if available.
I don’t see it. Drafting a non-shooter guard is not the direction we should be going. I get that the passing and size are special, but he can’t defend and if he can’t shoot it, he’s not worth drafting in the lotto. Just my opinion.
...who wants to tell him we have 7 first round picks(and many more 2nd round picks) over the next 5 drafts and 3 of those 7 picks are from teams likely to be worse than us?
Actually we have 4 picks over the next 4 drafts and 8 picks in the next 7 drafts 2025 10th pick. No pick in 2026 2027 own pick / Brooklyn swap & PHX pick. 2028 own pick 2029 two best of Houston, Dallas & PHX. 2030 own pick 2031 own pick If the discussion is about not having future lottery picks, that's reasonable The Rockets pick this year is 27th (goes to Brooklyn) ,. Their own picks aren't likely to be in the lottery, they are a playoff caliber team. The 29 Dallas pick no longer appears to be a lock to be lottery pick with them winning the Flagg. Who knows where that pick falls. Doubtful they are "that bad", especially with AD, Klay and Kyrie coming off the books before then. That's $124.1m off the books and having a ton of cap space to play with. They also have their own pick in next year's draft .... The PHX picks .... who knows where they land. Moving Durant could be addition by subtraction for them - a good offensive team getting better defensively - they probably aren't a contender, but they may not be in the lottery either. So where does our next lottery pick come from??? We have a bird in hand .... and no clue what's in the bush. I'd sure take a swing with this lottery pick, not knowing when we get another bite at the apple - one of Jakucionis or Demin.
Well he is a very gifted passer, would possibly be the Rockets best passer as a rookie. He isn’t a good shooter at this point though so that part of his game is projection. He is known as a hard worker and very driven. He also will likely adapt to the NBA lifestyle quickly. The 10th pick in this draft is like the 15th in a lot of other drafts. He is a project but so are the other players there at #10. He really favors his right hand and struggled some against better teams. He is a lottery pick in this draft but may take some years to develop.
He's solid but I'm afraid he might not be quick or shifty enough to make it into the paint at the NBA level. Love the size and passing though. Would totally be happy to draft him at 10. Outside of the top 4, we're guaranteed to get one of Maluach, Kon, Jaku, Tre Johnson, Queen and Demin at 10 and I like all of them in that order. Really good draft for a late lotto pick.
I've been trying to talk myself into liking him at 10, but i saw too many byu games where he was a non factor. I get that he's young and there is no teaching size, but he's going to be a project and not a guy that will see the floor for a while. Another season of stashing a lotto pick in the g-league would be a bitter pill to swallow.
I'll be more than happy to eat crow if he doesn't pan out but I have a really good feeling about this kid. In terms of questions regarding his shooting, he is not a scorer by default and he already has a fluid shot that just needs minor fine tuning. He is also 6'9 which is crazy for a guard
I don't care if our pick spends the season in the G League if we're competing. I look at lt like next season will effectively be Reed's rookie year. And it's not bad to continue to have a stream of talented players stepping in already having had a year to develop under our staff and learn our systems. That said, I'm terrified of non-shooters right now. Personally, I'd trade back and draft Rasheer Fleming as a Tari replacement and see if we can't get a guard who can play defense and shoot for Tari or Bari. Whichever of them the team likes less. I'd hate to see either of them go, but we'll have to give up something good to get something good and I don't expect the Rockets are going to be able to pay all of these guys.
I could definitely see Colin Murray Boyles as the pick, as a Tari replacement. If Tari's health is more questionable than we know or if they know he's a deal-sweetener or whatever it is that they know... CMB is a legit defender, even though he doesn't share Tari's range he does have a better handle and finishing ability and has that advanced-metrics-darling type of impact. As for Demin, I think I'd rather just see Amen as our super tall guard. If we want a lengthy guy we can stash too, Noa Essengue? Nique Clifford is 23 already but has a smooth game... if we're taking flyers at 10
CMB Vs R. Fleming. -------> I like Fleming Nique Clifford Vs Cedric Coward ------->. I like Coward Fleming Vs Coward Hard to choose by I like Coward by a hair
