A million BBS posts, two million of which have been debating Eddie.

My question is -- under JVG, and presumably forever, will EG be a 3 or a 4 or even a 5?

Eddie said (in an interview I heard) he preferred 3, and offensively he (kind of/sort of) compares to JPo but

EG's always been placed at the 4 but

JVG played Camby at the 5 and he (kind of/sort of) compares to Marcus.

So, where will Eddie play...and why?

I am (kind of/sort of) hoping he plays the 3 and backs up the 5. I would like to see him D the 3, give weak side help with his shot blocking and give a different look in post minutes.

This also means I'd like to see a mean@ss mutha 4 back up MoT.

Eddie is simply not quick enough to play the three (of course he is not strong enough to play the four either). Guys like Marion, Rashard, Carter, etc. would be driving past him left and right.

It might work in a soft zone for short periods of time, but nothing more then that.

Why do I get the feeling that under JVG's scheme, EG will be more of a guy playing on the frontline than any particular position?

Meaning interchangeable positions based on match ups?

BTW - any indication JVG will zone much?

unless you're money from 3, you have to be able to put the ball on the floor to play time at the sf.

Grow some balls EG, start working inside.

Other than his erratic shot, EG is the furthest thing from Posey that I can think of.

griffin will play the KG role, aka the Dirk role...

IOW, he'll be on the court matching up with whomever. undefinable position.

    he is a weak 3 on o

    he is a weak 5 on d

that averages out to a weak, backup 4 he will be playing for JVG

If you guys didn't catch JVG's 610 interview, he said what many have been saying on this bbs, when talking about Steve, that wasting time debating over labels like "1" and "2" don't mean much to him.

I suspect it will be the same with Eddie. He will play when the JVG feels that it is the best matchup for the Rockets, and whatever pos. you want to call it is fine with him.

Playing EG at the 3, takes away his one decent asset at this point, shot blocking.

Playing EG at the 4, enhances his weaknesses, strength and toughness.

Playing EG at the 5, don't see why that would even be necessary with Yao and the $48 million dollar man pretty much taking up all the minutes there.

I think Eddie catches 22-28 mpg and may come off the bench. Match ups would dictate what he is playing. If Cato or Yao are out there with him, he's PF. If Mo, it would be center.

he's not a small forward, although there are a handful he can guard, but only a handful

I think he'll be a 4. Give it some time I see him playing what Camby was supposed to be playing in the East. I think he'll be worked hard and in time he'll be the defensive minded thug at the 4 we've needed. I've seen sparks in him to believe that he can play a great 4. Don't know how he's going to get quicker. But I know he can get stronger. Throw him at the four and with him being stronger and as long as he keeps his range he'll be awesome playing the 4.

    He's a 4... No doubt about it...

He's a undersized PF but he a PF...

I can't think of one SF he can defend??? Bowen would still beat him to the rack...

He needs to play inside or bust... Its just that simple...

I don't see why 'under JVG' matters. Why would a player play one position under one coach and a different one under another? I'm sure it happens, but it's so infrequent that it's hardly worth talking about. I think 99 percent of the players in the league would play the same 'position' no matter who was coaching them. It's not like you can often say "man, he decided to play that guy as a 3, what a stroke of genius...I'm sure no one else would have thought of that". I also agree that trying to fit players into a single position by some sort of prototype, is dumb. I do however think that the difference between a 3 and a 4/5 is a lot greater than the difference between a 1 and a 2. So this discussion is slightly more relevant than a discussion on whether or not Francis is a 1 or a 2.

    LOL!

I think he is a going to be a 4.

Who is that meana$$ mother4 that you want?

He can play both positions decently so we should play him at whatever position needs him....depending on matchups and needs and stuff.
