You need an HD signal to appreciate it, and there is nothing really to set up.

you will need to get either an OTA HD antenna or get an HD receiver from your cable/sat provider to appreciate an HD signal.

of course then there are blu-ray players and super cheap hd-dvd players now that will let you take full advantage of your new tv.

like jeremiah posted above please use the internet and not a brick and mortar store to purchase peripherals like cables and all.

hdmi cables can be had easily for 4-6 bucks after shipping and tax (or even less)

If you have cable, most likely they will have hi def network stations (ABC, FOX) that your TV can show if the TV has a QAM tuner. If you want hi-def cable stations (TNT, ESPN, etc..), you need to buy their HD package.

Get a HD cable box from your cable provider and use either HDMI or component cables to connect the box to the TV. The cable company should provide component cables with the box when you pick it up.

You'll want to calibrate the TV once everything is connected. The best place to go for that is online at AVSForum. There you can find the best settings for the TV so the picture looks great.

Of course if you want the best sound quality possible, you'll need a receiver and a sound system. Most HD programs are in Dolby Digital 5.1.

And keep in mind that the standard def channels will look like crap on a HDTV. There's nothing wrong with your set. Those signals just weren't meant to be viewed on a 1080p screen.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

You don't need CABLE or SATELLITE if you don't already have it in order to view HD.

Get one of these at Wally Martinez or Radio Quack or Circuit Pity or Worst Buy:
AMPLIFIED ANTENNA (HD-capable), around $20. You don't have to pay more than $30... don't let them sell you the most expensive one.

Connect it, and make sure your antenna has good reception (uncovered by a second story), which is usually by a window.

Using your remote menu, go to the "add channels" function and add "digital channels" (if you have one) or "add all channels." Let the TV add program them. You'll end up with channels like 2.1 or 2-1, all the way up to 2.4 or 2-4, and most national networks have them. You will also get a .1 or -1 channel at least for 8, 11, 13, 20, 26, and 39 if you're in a good part of the city.

When your auto-programming is done, access an HD over-the-air antenna channel using the channel's .1 or -1 version.

    Marvel in its beauty.

Watch Channel 11 news on HD. Watch most PRIMETIME TV Shows in HD.

cwebbster, you mind giving us the model of the TV? We don't need to know how much you paid for it, though.

If it isn't working right, whack it with a Wii remote.
