So has he finally "get it"? The guy has scored over 20 points in each of last 6 games. He stood toe to toe with Bosh tonight with 27 points and 12 rebound. Could he be the savior for the Knicks? Will he continues to play like this when Frye comes back from injury?
That's just it, rebounding and defense aren't something that a 6-11 guy is supposed to "get". That stuff should come natural to him. A guy that big and strong only getting 6.4 rebounds and .3 blocks per game is pure laziness. He's also makes Yinka Dare look like John Stockton. Once you pass the ball to Curry, the only way that you're getting back is with a taser. He's a lazy slug that only cares about scoring.
I'm focusing on the last 6 games, and he averaged 7.8 rebounds in the last 6 games. Granted it's noting impressive, but it's still a improvement.
Anything is an improvement with Eddy Curry. He only has three double digit rebounding games this season, and has SIX blocks the whole season...SIX BLOCKS! Three of those blocks came in the season opener!
Curry must develop into a major building block or the Knicks future is hopeless. 6 games doesn't make a season but it's a start. If he can keep the production up the next 15-20 games then we can talk about him finally turning the corner. Of all of their major question marks this season, Curry is their #1 project by far.
The Bulls, had the right idea when they drafted Curry and Chandler that one year. If you combined the two fo them, they woulda been the perfect big man. Chandler gives u rebounding and defense, while curry gives u points. too bad they couldn't learn from each other.
Yahoo sports has a segment called the Curry Line where players get on if they make less steals, assists and blocks than turnovers per game. Even during his recent hot hand, Eddy has made that stat in the last 5 games. I picked him up in my league, but I don't believe he gets it like what other members have said. Zeke is just giving him the ball and stepping back without enforcing any discipline. A guy with his size and talents could be a force other than points and boards.
Is Curry getting double digit rebounds as the result of David Lee boxing out? He wasn't rebounding when Frye was starting. David Lee's rebounding numbers are down while starting in Frye's place also.
Compared to how Curry has played in the beginning of the season, these last 6 games are encouraging. He wasn't scoring or rebounding for the Knicks, now he is at least scoring. Still needs to improve his FT shooting but I'm not sure he'll ever be a good rebounder or defensive center, his focus is on the offensive end and doesn't have the intensity to bring it on both ends.
No. They made a HUGE mistake investing in two H.S. big men the same year. H.S. big men are the slowest developing player there is. As it turned out, their franchise was basically put on hold while neither of them developed into a star player. That draft was a setback to the Bulls franchise. Fortunately they turned the soft lemon known as Eddy Curry into lemonade (good draft positions).
Exactly. The post-Jordan Bulls made two big mistakes that would set them back for years: (1) trading away Elton Brand for a H.S. kid, and (2) signing a disgruntled and fast declining Ben Wallace for a fat contract.
Also dumping Brad Miller for the right to dump Ron Mercer's contract, under the auspices of "freeing" minutes for Big Eddy. Eddy just can't help a good team. Those numbers are fine, but the reason the Knicks are in these games is Lee holding teams to one shot, Francis starting to find guys, and great (if inconsistent) play from Q RIch. Eddy's PER is still well below average (way worse than last year), he's pulling in 12.3 percent of available rebounds while on the floor (among centers, only Nenad is worse, not by much, and he spends his time 20 feet from the hoop) which is right around what Q-Rich is doing. He's turning it over. He's still playing lousy defense. He's a good guy, but you don't just wake up one day as an energized (or competent) defender, or someone with rebounding instincts. Isiah keeps talking about how young he is, and he is young, but by Eddy's age Ewing, Yao, Jermaine racked up all sorts of individual honors, and had shown the signs of developing into All-Stars -- or they'd already made the AS team. Knickerblogger, as usual, had the best take: http://www.knickerblogger.net/?p=426
That Knickerblogger blog is on point in all areas but one - Yao Ming did not win a rookie of the year award. That honor went to Amare Stoudamire.
Now, now ... he "resigned" because of "health issues." What a horrible freakin' trade. And I love Tyson. Bottom line, if you trade Player A (20 and 10 for two seasons, two years removed from a co-ROY), you have to get more than the second pick in the draft. Doesn't matter who it is.
I was just stating that the two of them are complete opposites, and if the two of them were one player, then they would be the perfect big man. I never said that the Bulls made the right decision. They took a gamble during that draft and it didn't pan out.
Maybe I misunderstood you, but I don't think they had "the right idea" either. Why draft two players at the same position, especially center? It was STUPID! I don't think they had a clue what they were doing and the franchise wasted several years hoping they had some sort of tandem.
