new to the boards but love the rox, question is i realy cant see eddie griffin ready to start taking over games yet. glad we traded for him but i was hoping he could give more an impact like jefferson did, i know its premature cuz he didnt get the minutes but from preseason his offense kinda scares me to think that he could be the next KG as some stated,,,i dunno just an opinion
He was 4 of 11 with 9 pts 7 boards and 5 blocks in about 26 minutes against the current league MVP. Not bad in my book. Yes I think Eddie is ready to start.
For some reason, people around here get very upset when you say Griffin should start over MoTay. However, what you said was well put and I agree.
I certainly think he starts the first five games. Even in the interview with Rudy in one of the other threads he calls Eddie the most complete power forward he has.
CAuse MoT has always been able to come out the gate with some quality 1st quarter minutes. His shot is damn near money at the beginning of the game...I dont see a problem with Mo startin till EG is kicking his butt, then Mo becomes the backup or if he has been playin well, we try to get some value for him...It all depends on EG..With his blocking ability combined with Yao's size and blocking ability...Block Party Time!...
Not to mention that we could still start Mo to get us to a great start AND then have Eddie play more minutes and minutes in the crunchtime. We don't necessarily have to start the better player. Maybe Cato will start.
agree MO T usualy does contribute 8-10 in opening periods but then doesnt return till the next opening period
well, maybe i'm wrong...i guess i just assumed that taylor would get the nod...you guys have apparently heard some stuff regarding griffin starting i haven't heard. i hope you're right, because i think his defensive presence is what the rockets need. offense isn't the problem.
Point taken, as long as neither guy minds sharing the minutes no matter who starts... all should be good. Some players get offended if the dont get to start even tho they deserve it, in this case we have 2 guys who should by all rights be startin at the 4. I would honestly rather keep them both for what they bring to the team..but if someone saw Mo's playing and offered us a good deal for him, why not? As long as EG is still here when the dust settles...
I agree with the defensive presence argument. I'd rather see Griffin get the nod to combine with Yao in the middle. With Yao's shooting ability plus Francis, Mobley, and whoever is at the small forward (KT, Rice, or TMo) I think we have plenty of offensive weapons in the starting lineup. The biggest area of improvement for the Rocks is defense and I think Griffin is definitely superior to MoT or KT. MoT could be our instant offense off the bench, 6th man type.
Some of my first posts on this BBS were in favor of Griffin over Taylor. In fact, I outright felt Griffin was the starter and Mo would have to earn the starting job back or out perform Griffin. Anyway, I got jumped on by a few seniors. Maybe it was just a newbie thing. Hmmmmmmmm.
Ive come to realize that. Ive seen some good senior vs. senior arguements more than senior vs. newbie arguements. I can see how some people overreact to what is said on here. I cant believe some of the stuff people come out and say. Of course, Im probably seen as one of those so anyway .........................................
I think there are good arguments for either player getting the tab to start. Taylor needs to continue to knock of the rust and keep working to earn the money he's getting under his contract so that he can try to shake some of those haters off (pointing at no one in particular). And, not that Rudy hates or can't handle young talent, but he is historically predisposed to putting in veterans in starting positions unless he has no other viable talent in those positions (as was the case when Steve and Cuttino came to the squad). Eddie's Eddie and it's tough to watch such top shelf talent sit on the bench instead of making SportsCenter highlights and becoming the full-fledged star we keep seeing flashes of. The important thing, especially in a pre-season game, is for both to get adequate quality playing time overall to keep improving their individual games. The way Rudy puts out his starting lineup (outside of Francis and Mobley) sometimes doesn't make the clearest of sense. Most of the time, you just shrug your shoulders, cross your fingers and hope it works out. He's assembled a nice collection of talent now, and some will start to grumble like he's Mack Brown if the talent doesn't convert to more success in the win/loss column.
You've gotten better... As a whole, the best arguments/discussions are between Srs.. Tho there are some newcomers that have good discussion skills.. and some Srs that don't(see me for example)
