To complement Tmac and Yao, we need to add some younger talent at virtually every position. Our best assets are our expiring contracts, the TE and draft picks. Rumors are that clippers as usual want to dump (Chris Wilcox in this case) some salary and Memphis wants to get rid of Jason Williams at any cost. We can target to capitalize on these oppurtunities. I propose :

Trade 1: Mike James/David Wesley/Moochie Norris for JW/Mike Miller(throw in a future Ist if required).

Trade 2: Our TE/24th pick/NY 2nd round pick in 2006 for Chris Wilcox

Clippers get their favourite draft picks to get the rookie contracts. Memphis not only dumps JW but also get huge cap relief in 2006. Of course they have to pay a prize (Miller) for this. One would question why would they help their division rivals? Well, the answer is simple-financial compulsions. Moreover with such a trade they also kill our chances of getting Swft (via sign and trade) and infact there is an outside chance that after this trade they may generate enough room to re-sign Swift. As far as we are concerned, we upgrade our roster significantly in a financially responsible manner. Now we can sit and let this team grow or trigger some future deals to round up the roster. Some examples are: Sura+Baker(expiring contract) for A Daniels or Spoon+J Williams for Danny Forston and A Daniels or Wilcox+Spoon or SAR or Sura+Baker+Future Pick for D.Miles. The bottomline is that we will be able to add some serious talent and let other contracts to expire to generate cap space to re-sign Yao for long term. Thoughts----

I'd do the first, but I'm skeptical that Jerry West would. I don't think he needs to dump salary so badly that he would give up Mike Miller for Mike James and expiring contracts.

I actually wouldn't do the second without some legit reason to believe that Wilcox will do more here than in L.A. Wilcox's value is at an all-time low right now, and I think there's reason for that. At this point, I think the 24 pick alone is almost as likely to pan out as Wilcox.

JVG is not going to want Jason Williams as his point guard.

Why not? JWill is the next step up from Sura, with better handles, athleticism, jumpshot, and playoff experience.

You have to take risks to win big. "Economically," JWill puts fans in the seats. Weatherspoon for JWill.
