    here's the skinny,

I sold an item on Ebay and the guy paid with PayPal. My policy has always been that I wait until the money is in my bank account before I ship items.

I emailed him right after the auction and let him know at which point I transfered the funds to my account.

He sent a fairly irate email saying that he had a problem with my policy of waiting to ship until the funds were in my account and said he would "handle it after the auction". Presumably with negative or neutral feedback I suppose.

I emailed him back and told him to "do your worst". I usually leave positive comments right away, but this time I'm waiting even though he paid immediately and has done his part.

Today I shipped the item and sent him the tracking number. The auction ended on the 17th and today is the 21st. Would you, as an Ebay customer, have a problem with an item shipping out to you four days after you paid for it? This is also a decent size item. It's not like you can just go down the post office. It's also very fragile and needs lots of attention in the boxing up department.

I'm just pissed cause I think I'm going to get my first negative feedback and I'm not sure I deserve it. It's been two years since I sold anything on Ebay so a negative feedback is going to kinda' suck.

    Later,
    brock

p.s. I have two cast iron 4" gate valves for sale on Ebay but they are about to end... better hurry! But man, those things have to be crated and shipped via freight so it's going to take a few days to ship a'ight?

The only reason I would delay shipping an item is if someone sent an check payment through Paypal. Otherwise if it is an instant transfer, I send the item right away. That is kind of the point of paypal. Otherwise, he could have sent you a check in the mail, and you deposited the same day.

I ship the same day I receive payment. I've made trips to the Post Office at 10, 11 PM at night to get a package shipped out.

i've never sold on ebay but i've bought plenty. i usually pay within minutes of winning an auction and expect people to ship as soon as they can. four days? that's not so bad but me likes to get my gear ASAP.

I do too, but I did what I could.

I didn't even email this part to him as I wouldn't believe me...

    but man.

Closest place to ship is half an hour away. I live in the middle of the Sam Houston National Forest and the only road out was taken out by a tree on Thursday. It also took out the power and it was all day before I could even leave my house. Friday I drove to Giddings and back again.

anyway. it's shipped. I don't have anything else I want to get rid of at the moment.

I waited atleast 1 day to ship. I've tried selling stuff before, then it ends up being fraud and Paypal will take back the money out of your account even if you already shipped. I no longer sell **** through ebay.

Moron. You respond too much. All you ever need to email is confirmation of payment, and that shipping will be done shortly, and another when it is sent. Don't ever worry about responding to other emails.

I agree. If the buyer keeps sending emails, just ignore them. Send one email saying you will be shipping out shortly and thats about it until you send a tracking number after you have shipped it out.

If the buyer complains, just make up some excuse about the post office not being open where you live.

Send it out as soon as possible. I hate it when I buy a product from eBay and it takes 4+ days to ship. I ship the next buisness day at 8am.

I'm not saying delaying the sending of an item on purpose. But just send it out on a timely manner. If the buyer emails you 12 hours after payment is sent and ask you if the product is sent then I wouldn't reply right away saying it hasn't been sent.

doesnt a seller usually state, item will be shipped within ___ days after payment is received?

I would give a 7 day window and then deliver the goods well in advance of the 7 days... underpromise, over-deliver- customer is happy

I bought an item on Wednesday, paid for it immediately and emailed the seller my thanks for listing such a unique item... he responded "it is truly a one of a kind" but did not offer any other details...

I emailed him yesterday and asked if he had shipped the item, and that I would leave feedback as soon as I received it...

at that moment, he had not left me feedback, and I paid him within minutes..

he did not respond to the e-mail, but today the delivery came- I am completely satisfied with a three day delivery, and sure enough he left me feedback between my e-mail and the time I received the item, and I gave him super feedback as well...

i agree with FFB, the less communication required, the better, but ship the items in a timely fashion and everyone is happy

So you wait for the funds to appear in PayPal but then you transfer the funds to your bank account and wait for that to clear before shipping??? I am sorry but that is just stupid, I would give you a negative feedback too for slow shipping :D
Seriously - if the money is in your PayPal account that should be good enough - just ship the damn item.

I always ship as soon as I see the payment in my PayPal account.

live and learn. I'll put a disclaimer by the shipping from now on.

I'm going to leave my positive feedback now and trust in Karma.

you can also respond to negative feedback and give your side of the story...

simply say what happened... you can fudge the truth if it took place over a weekend. "waited for funds to clear, shipped item immediately, overall transaction took less than five days.."

    something along those lines...

honestly I wouldnt care if its under 7 days, but some e-bay buyers can be pests... I know I've been one, but the patience and communication of the sellers only gives them better feedback... so it definitely a two-way street

I usually ship the next day or same day if possible.

And for my paypal account, if I have more than 200 dollars, I will transfer it back into my bank account right after I received the payment.

With paypal, you can NOT TRUST THEM, THEY'RE HELL IF YOU NEED TO DEAL WITH THEM.

I don't know why you wait. Paypal can snatch the money right back out of your account regardless. If its in your paypal accounts, its as good as in your regular account.
