Apparently, these dates are also in the Gamestop PC's, if that validates this any more. Hopefully, this is my last thread on this subject. I think this is already my 2nd or 3rd thread on the release date of the Xbox 360.

So for those getting the console at launch, what games are you looking to get?

That's a really good launch if true.

    Call of Duty 2
    Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    Final Fantasy XI
    Madden NFL 06
    Quake 4
    Perfect Dark LE
    Burnout Revenge
    Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06

are all well known game titles, hate to say it, but I want 5-6 of those. My wallet cries....

I'm a sport game nut, so I'll be taking a real good look at Madden, NBA2K & NHL2K on launch day. Of course, NBA Live comes out shortly after.

I hope we start seeing some stuff on these launch games soon.

Sorry to be lazy, but IGN's Xbox 360 section is a good place to start for vids on most of the games. You can also check out Gamespot's section as well as Gametrailer.com.

    http://gametrailers.com/

The following site also has some nice exclusive videos:

Again, sorry for not giving links to specific games, but I could probably find something on each of the games. That would take forever though ;). If you are interested in any particular game, feel free to ask, and I'll see what I can do.

60 bucks for a game? Just because they're HD compatible don't mean they gotta jack up the price.

If it does come out that early and the PS3 is late in '06 I will definitely be leaning towards this, even though I'm more of a PS guy. I'm just impatient.

The launch titles remind me of the Xbox's but with an added twist...dare I say a 360° twist? I seem to recall that Elder Scrolls, a DOA, and a Project Gotham were launch titles for the Xbox, so they're looking to retain their solid fanbase.

I guess Perfect Dark is their killer app, though another Halo would've made their launch for them.

Yet their early launch means that they don't really need a killer app for now....

They plan on releasing Halo 3 on the same day the PS3 gets released. That's gonna cripple the PS3.

I think TES III: Morrowind came out in like 2002 for the Xbox, so it wasn't quite a launch title. Your point is still true though, IIRC. Never realized it until you said it.

I'm not sure what their "killer app" will be. I think they were trying to make PDZ it, but if it still looks as bad as it did earlier, I don't think it will be that popular. PGR3 looks amazing though. The racing lineup is pretty stacked, but it should do well. Ghost Recon, CoD 2, and Oblivion (personal favorite) have looked good so far, and could do well. Kameo may have a shot at doing well, as does Full Auto if a lot of people are looking for something Burnout-esque at launch.

If Gears of War was a launch title, there would be no question what game would be the "killer app." :)

Eh...not really. Unless Sony has like 5 million PS3's to sell on day 1, the PS3 will probably sell out (or virtually sell out) no matter what. Even with a crappy lineup and even a $400 or more price tag, it will probably sell out. Of course, they'll probably have some insanely small amount of consoles at launch, so it isn't that much of an accomplishment. Nothing against Halo 3, but it would be hard for any one title to keep a console from selling well initially, especially a popular one.

Now, if they want to continue to sell well a month or two after launch, then they'll need a little more luck. I would think most of the Halo 3 buzz would be over by then though.

And note that I'm assuming that the PS3 would have a crappy launch selection. If the launch mirrors anything similar to the demos/videos they have shown, Halo 3 may not make a dent even if Sony had millions of PS3's to sell. Sony seems to be providing better support this time around, so a decent lineup may be possible.

I'm guessing with a HD and that's it (only one system).

The vibe I've been getting since E3 is that the HD came standard, but recent rumors are suggesting otherwise. Apparently, the Xbox 360 doesn't need it, but they may still put it in there anyways. I try to be optimistic, so I'll continue to think it comes with it until MS says otherwise. And I think they'll only do that if they feel like they can sell the console for more and sell the HD as an accessory due to the PS3 being "expensive." I think they'd be stupid for doing that though since it seems like Sony is just playing with them, IMO.

Those dates and titles have been in the EB/Gamestop computers since the XBOX 360 was first announced.

They're just guesses for the most part.

That's mostly true, although it seems at least some of it has been updated recently (RR was just recently confirmed to be a launch title, IIRC). Maybe I'm putting too much faith in IGN/EB, but it just seems like they wouldn't have gone through all this trouble if these were dates that were purely guesswork.

I do think that what you see in the list may or may not be 100% accurate. For one, MS has normally said something like 10-15 games would be available at launch. There's 21 games in that list. So either MS has gotten some good news lately, or some games are going to be delayed. Shortly after I posted, I found out that Amped 3 would be delayed, although that may be in Europe only. I would guess that it is mostly correct though. I would think most of those games will still be available near launch, the console will probably launch around early November, and some games may cost $60 (or more).

I normally do take these lists with a grain of salt though, which includes the Halo 3/PS3 thing IMO. I laughed when someone tried to take the price tags of PS3 games in these lists and try to link it to games being on Blu-ray.

Dave2000, to follow up on your question, I'd like to point out a interview with J. Allard apparently from the September issue of Gameinformer. I don't have the magazine, but there are two excerpts that I found on the internet about it. The first is a lot more questionable though, as you will see:
After reading that, I'm not so sure on the inclusion of a HD anymore. It sounds like they may entertain the thought of releasing a Xbox 360 console later on that comes without a HD. If that is the case, then the HD seems like more of an option, like an accessory, than a necessary part of the console. I'm not sure what the games/Xbox Live need in order to run, but if they only need a memory card instead of a HD, then it seems to make sense to just offer the HD as an accessory.

If they include it with the console, I can't help but think it would be to ease the losses for the console, like the PSP "value" bundle. I'm not sure if this means the console would be >$300, or if MS could sell the console for <$300. In either case, it seems like some people would have a problem with that. In this scenario, it would be better, IMO, to just leave the HD as an accessory for those who prefer it over a memory card. This has all been very confusing.

I hope MS clears this up next week. I read that the pricing and availability of the console would be released during the Games Convention (17th-21st). I think there's supposed to be some stuff for the PS3 as well, or at least something from Hideo Kojima. I believe the event would be bigger than the PS meeting and Xbox summit from a few weeks ago, so expect some new things next week...hopefully. :)

I'm not sure of any online sites that will let you reserve one, but stores like EB Games and Gamestop should let you reserve it. Their web sites might have something that let's you reserve the console as well, but I'm not sure. I think I you could reserve a PSP through their sites and then pick it up at a local store, but I'm not sure if they are doing the same for the Xbox 360.

I will say that most of these stores are probably past their 1st shipments in reserves, so you may not be able to reserve a launch day Xbox 360. If you want one at launch, you'll have to wait in line at a Target, Wal-mart or other store that doesn't do reserves.

I'm looking forward to Elder Scrolls. First game seemed very expansive and open ended. Wasn't quite perfect. But if that game gets any better it could be a 10. I would love to see Halo become that open ended as well.
