This is a relatively long-term subject, and may be totally off the mark, but... How long do you guys think that the current state of Western dominance will last? I mean, let's face it - the best Eastern teams would be marginal in the West, and take a marginal Western team - like the Rox, Mavs, or TWolves and put them in the East, and they're a 'dominating' team... And before anyone tells me to take it to the NBA Dish board, I'm wondering where the Rox will end up if/when this shift happens. These things seem to go back and forth when looked at with a long-term perspective. But alot of premium players seem to be migrating both ways this offseason. What'd yall think? ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." (response given to me by my cognitive psych prof when I asked him about mental maps)
why does everyone post in this forum and then make believe that their posts are somewhat Rockets related? I think all of the FAs came out west a few years ago b/c it was wide open and none of the teams played defense. Someone forgot to tell people to quit coming out west. Now though, it seems like the talent is pushing back east, what with Francis going to the Wizards. ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. The latest on Maurice Taylor
"I think all of the FAs came out west a few years ago b/c it was wide open and none of the teams played defense. Someone forgot to tell people to quit coming out west." This is exactly the kind of trend I'm trying to bring to attention. Back and forth, back and forth... Where does true loyalty fit in? Does it even exist? I mean, with the likes of Ewing and Kemp moving (seemingly on a dime), what does that tell us about our future prospects? Achebe, I respect your opinions (and usually agree, despite the cheap shots like Francis-to-Wizards), but I REALLY am worried about such stock flows. Like, where will Stevie and Cat be 5 years from now? Or 10? Will Mo be a franchise player, or a forgotten card that we might have played? Will Kelvin ever realize the confidence to become a starter, and if so, will we lose him because of it? If other teams can move a franchise player at the drop of a hat, where does that leave our organization? The uncertainty is maddening. I dunno, maybe this is too complex, too foreward-looking to even contemplate... ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." I am with you on this one treeman , if we could foward a few yrs from now and Francis is ready for a re-up would he stay w/us? or leave? all indications seem to be that he will stay.. I am basing my last comment from things he has said such as "if I was offered a lifetime contract I would sign it " and the fact that he seems legit about liking it here and wanting his bud Cuttino to stay here. As far as the west/east thing goes.. just last yr. before the season began everyone was saying that the west was going to win it and indeed that is what happened but this offseason has made it slightly more balanced, think about the Lakers facing The Heat... no one in their right mind can say that the lakers would take it .. hell no I can see the Heat taking that one just as easily as LA could, is going to be very interesting at least much more competative then last yr. ------------------ Life moves pretty fast, If you don't stop and look once in a while you might miss it!! ... 3pointer: Yes, that's the sort of thinking I'm looking for - systems thinking (You don't know how far you are above the Curve). I personally saw the balance swing a little more towards the East this offseason, tho everyone is entitled to their own interpretation... Of course, the East is still weak, but it's moving in the right direction. What impact might that have on our own players when their contracts come up for re-negotiation? God, I'm already having nightmares about Shandon resigning with the Jazz (even though my conscious mind knows that's impossible). I really don't want to have such nightmares involving Stevie and Cat (and now Mo, dammit). I value my sleeptime highly - all OCD insomniacs do That said, LA still has it this (upcoming) season. But I still think we're the 'X-factor' - the unpredictable variable - against them, which is why I want to face them in the first round... (do or die kinda thing) ------------------ "I am an idiot. Well, I'll tell u one thing, If baby shaq gets drafted into the East, he's gonna rock it........By the time he's anywhere near 25 (currently 17)he'll have been a max player, on an all star team, and on the dream team.....He can really swing things toward the east.....not just that, since they're weaker, they'll be getting more overall picks too, making them stronger and stronger.....But I think right now, only the Heat are a team from the East that can compete in the West...... ------------------
Sane: Gonna take a couple years for that to square out, but the end result is the same... But who's to say he won't move when he's done there (in the East)? I'm glad you brought that up. It seems to me that 2002-3 is going to be a very busy year in terms of movement of newly released (draft) players, as well as those big FAs who haven't signed from 1999-2001 and those who have been recently released (from 1997-2001) contracts. Many of the valuable ones - most - will be resigned, or resigned and traded; many will have signed to previous contracts (which their whores - er, um, agents, will try to renegotiate)... Very few will be solid. Where will our footings lie? (and with people like Falk, HOW will they LIE?) Will there even be a real - contextual - difference by then between signing with an Eastern or Western team? Will those questions even matter anymore? Will the Allmighty $ actually Win? I mean, REALLY WIN - once and for all??? Will that be all that matters? ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." Sorry for my babbling, I just want to be able to avoid any future Pippenesque deals. Getting bit in the ass once is enough - enough, at least, to tell you to stay away from the bushes with three leaves... Fu*kin' poison. I'd like to have the foresight to aviod it. ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." It is WAY too slow on this board if we are worried about will or won't happen in 3 or 4 years!!! ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
C'mon, it's not even preseason yet... What the heck else do we have to do? (I promise that posts like these will never even come up once play starts - at least, I won't start them) We're bored. ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..."
