No matter who you support, make sure you vote. You don't have the right to b**** if you don't vote. IMO, it's not a right or a privilege, it is a duty that you owe your country. Let's see if we can actually get over half of the registered voters to participate in this election. http://www.harrisvotes.org/Early_Voting/English/eveng.pdf
I have voted several times on eSlate and never had a problem (though I wish there was a paper record for confirmation). I'll be voting today too.
It has been a couple years since I voted using paper ballots, but I dont remember ever getting a reciept after dropping my paper ballot into the box either.
I know, but at least if I wanted to, I could go back and check to make sure the correct hole was punched. Simply not possible with electronic ballots. Also, with paper ballots (or even paper receipts if we were required to deposit them on the way out) a manual recount is possible.
I am voting via absentee ballot this week as I have volunteered in Pennsylvania to drive elderly people to the polls on election day (only Kerry voters of course! ) Since New York is pretty much locked up for Kerry, the wife and I have decided to help out in a state that might end up being a swing. And PA is only an hour away. Called the local democratic board and they were most pleased! If I can drive 20 to 30 people to the polls that day, I'll be very happy! Vote Nov 2nd!
Here in Houston, a great place to do early voting is at the Fiesta where OST and Main Street split. There is never a line or a wait. Only trouble is I usually wind up spending $50 on groceries when I am done!
I agree with you that if you don't vote you shouldn't complain, but I disagree with this everyone should vote thing. I think only people that actually care about this election and bother to at least research a candidates views should bother to vote. Having a person vote just to make a vote is worthless because they are just going to vote for whoevers name is cool or whoever's talking head commercial conned them into voting for them. Voting is a right and a privilege and it is also a right and privilege not to vote. I wish their were not as many "Rock the Vote" campaigns, and I wish they would be replaced by campaigns that encourage people to research candidates and become educated voters.
I voted today on A&M's campus. Not many people there. Actually, when I got into the "booth," I was the only one voting at the time. Anyways, I too am tired of this election, I need a serious break from politics.
