Are you meaning like running 2 or 3 miles or something else? I try to run now around lunchtime (much better on my body) about 2 days a week but it has been a b**** to run in the cold. And I won't do it - just not worth it to me.
I do not understand how people get up early and run. I have to recover for 15 minutes just from dragging all my stuff up the stairs at work. (I do wonder how much it all weighs.) I tried getting up early and doing aerobics once and my stomach was upset for the rest of the day. Most of the times when I have intended to "get up and work out" it has simply not happened. I run at night. Usually between 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. Thank goodness I live in a safe area and have the campus loop to run around; otherwise I couldn't. I don't have time before then. The main problem is sleep deprivation: if I got 4 hours the night before and still haven't had a nap, I might not feel like doing anything more than walking.
I used to come in from November through February at 5:30 to prep for 6-8 am freshman baksetball practice. I don't miss those days.
I have nights where I can't sleep...can't sleep at all. When that happens I wake up at like 2:30 or 3. I work about 4 minutes from where I live. And when you bill hours for a living, it doesn't matter what time it is. So I've been known to be at the office as early as 3:30. When preparing for trial, sometimes you pull an all-nighter...does that count?
I usually get to any job between 7 and 8 in the morning. When I first started out in IT, I would go to work at oddball hours just to keep learning. I used to go to Hooters with buddies on Saturdays, then go to work at midnight and go home around 4-6am. I used to unload trucks for Walmart - that was a 10p-6a job I think. I used to load trucks for RPS from 3-7am. I love working graveyard shifts.
As deceitful as it may sound, my bosses would allow me to come in early since back in '98 (when my first girl was born) and it has been like that ever since. I didn't see the need before that, because my job was within walking distance and I could take some time to come walking from near-Downtown. Coming in early (or trying to) started because I wanted to avoid traffic out to the west side, near WestChase, but it [the reason]evolved. The next reason was to have more time with my girls, and finally, to allow my wife to go to school at nights. But I have never been to work this early. (see my opening post)
Usually I get to work at around 8:45 am and leave at 4:00 pm. I do actual work for about an hour of that time. When I'm on-call though, all bets are off. We have users overseas to support, so it's not uncommon for me to get calls all throughout the night.
Since I work about four feet from my bed, I've been known to get up in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep and do a little work. Of course, I've also been known to roll out of bed and into my chair at 1:00pm too.
How about get a call at 2 AM to help resolve a crisis. Does that count? For more normal planned work, it 3:45 AM one time.
Sleep is not that necessary Sometimes I go to sleep when everyone else is just waking up, and sometimes I wake up when everyone is just going to sleep.
on the other hand, it's Friday. I have a committee meeting at 1:00 that can't possibly take that long, and then... Nap Time!
All-nighters were very regular at my past job. In one instance, I worked 40 consecutive hours before going home. Now, I wake up at 5:40am daily and am a productive machine before most of my competition even gets out of bed.
yeah, thank goodness gregory gym at UT is open until 1 so i can get my exercise and basketball in when i like to.
I know opening a two-year-old thread is SACRILEGE in the CF.net BBS... but... I just had to. DUDES. I beat my own record of coming in to work the earliest by about 2 hours... I came in at f*ck*ng 4:00 a.m. today for more server updates. It's barely 8 and I feel like it's LUNCH TIME. xcharged should be proud of me. You're my boy, BLUE!
didn't really matter, I usually was late anyways...that's why I like jobs with minimal supervision...I hated clock-in type of jobs...
It's all about the honor system at my work. Spoiler LOL. Honor my ASS. I've got your 'honor' swingin', b****es...
On call 24/7/365 -even on vacation (and yes I've cut it short for a crisis... I know that's bad... trying to let other staff handle things while I'm away now -man it's nice to finally have a staff!) As for "office" time -actually there- I have been as early as 5:30 AM and as late as 3 AM-ish. As for the in-home "office" -whenever.
