The next Lamar Odom. Maybe a better shooter, not quite as good as of passer. But frame, ball-handling ability about the same.
Do you feel that he might be an inconsistent player like Odom too? Maybe you were alluding to that in your reply.
I like the Lamar Odom comparison. A lot, actually. His size/athleticism/skill set are enough to make him a lottery pick alone. The problem is what he has, or doesn't have, between his two ears. Inefficient, takes plays off, turnover prone, work ethic issues, lacks a true position -- all that sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it? Clark is probably the biggest enigma of this upcoming draft. He has the tools and upside of an NBA All-Star and the stench of a complete bust. It's hard to gauge a player like that. All I do know is if he falls into the 10-15 range you would be crazy not to pick him. Top 10? Ehhh, that's maybe pushing it.
I love this kid's game. He sort of reminds me a bit of Danny Granger as well. If he falls into the late teens, the Rockets should fork over some cash and buy a higher pick than they planned on purchasing in order to get this guy. He would be excellent Artest insurance.
Wow, great article about this kid and his game. Possible Morey-ball target? I think so! Why sign the real Lamar Odom (w/ intensity issues) when you could get the next version? I didn't post the rest of the article for obvious reasons. What We Think We Know About Earl Clark
I haven't seen him play much. NBAdraft.net compares him to Marvin Williams/Boris Diaw. Which I actually find kind of odd, given that they're games aren't really exactly comparable, though they both float around the perimeter. Y'all are saying more Lamar Odom, which is different again. What about Rudy Gay? He strikes me as having a similar build, though longer... NBAdrat.net also has him going in the top 12, and Draftexpress at 15.
Besides McGrady's obvious superstar capabilities, the main thing said about his pairing with Yao is that he is a good passer. This is one of the main reasons why I like Clark; a player who is most comfortable playing from the perimeter but looks to create offense, draw double teams, find and dish to the open man and most importantly do it consistently! I believe this anecdote sums up my vision pretty aptly: Just beautiful
If he was more agressive he would be a top 5 pick but everytime i see him play he seems happy to be out at the top of the 3 and just give the ball up. With his size and versatility he would be a match-up nightmare if he would only look for his own shot
I think the Mock Drafts have him going to Phoenix at, 13? Can't remember what pick they have but doesn't he sound like he would be a taller Shawn Marion. The Replacement???
Shawn Marion is pretty damn athletic and it sounds like Clark has better handles than Marion too. However, I would agree that PHX would try to use him as a replacement Marion b/c they are stupid
Even better, that means we can try a trade with the Pacers or Bobcats to move up to 12 or 13 if we really want him. At 6'10" with the skills of a guard and the athletic ability he possess he can be a force in the NBA. Yes there are doubts of intensity but wasn't that the problem with Rudy Gay and he has shown to be a great offensive player. He could be used as Tracy was on the wing to either space the floor or create a shot for himself or teammates. I'd like him on our team.
