I use ear plugs (just the cheap orange foam kind) in order to cut out the sound of my noisy fan. However, I can still hear my alarm clock (and the dog rustling in her crate). As far as health problems, I can't think of anything other than maybe an ear infection - but that can be avoided by either cleaning or replacing the plugs regularly.
WHOA. Instead of buying earplugs for sleeping, how about we try to figure out why we need earplugs? No, I have not used any myself. Just wanting to find the root of your problem.
I sleep with earplugs in every night. I have for years. I use these cheap ones from Walgreen's/CVS: I have no health problems related to my chronic use of earplugs. Good luck.
I went from living somewhat in the country with zero sound and perfect silence to living inside the loop with tons of noise.. I had to use ear plugs every weeknight to fall asleep, but I am a very light sleeper.. I live back in the burbs now so I dont have to worry about the plugs now which is great, but they never bothered me.. You can still hear just enough hear a fire alarm or burglar alarm go off.. I did not have any problems while I used them, but I bought mine by the jar full and tossed each set every two nights.. You can pick up a jar of 100 or so at the drugstore for about $10.00, the higher Db ratting the better IMO..
I used them when I would take sales trips and share a room with other guys who snored. It effectively drowned out their snoring...it's also a little weird not hearing anything at all. I can honestly say that I slept very deeply with them in.
Thanks for the experience shared so far Hehe true true. Well simple reason really. Last year of college here, roommates and I have drastically different schedule this semester. I managed to secure all late classes while 2 of them ended up having some early morning ones. So...yeah, all the shower, toilet flushing, doors, etc wake me easily.... Since I can only fall asleep on my sides, I'm really worried about how that might push the earplugs deeper than intended...
I started using them a few years ago...(yes, wife snores). It took me a few tries to figure out what works best. I found the smaller ones works best for me. Never had a problem sleeping on them, although sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night knowing I got something odd in my ear. But by then my wife has calmed down to the point of me not needing the plugs. I will say this though, it's a great way to get a quiet nights sleep.
Look for the largest NRR which stands for Noise Reduction Rating. It ranges from 15-34. The bigger the NRR, the bigger the attenuation. People typically get the strongest one which cuts down most of the noise.
I use them and they work great. Usually I sleep so heavy and hear nothing else but the sound of myself breathing that when my alarm clock clock goes off in the morning it startles me and wakes me up more effectively. (before I would just keep hitting snooze till the last second)
I used them to study for mcat and i found that every time i put them on i was fast asleep after 10 minutes of reading. So they work, i guess. . After mcat i tried it for sleeping during the day and it worked fine. No problems so far. I change mine like once a week or whenever i feel they're too dirty. I clean my ear regularly though. Cause earwax buildup can be a problem if u use it for a long time.
