I wouldn't mind just to see how Donnymost reacts. But yeah, I rather him play somewhere else so he doesn't have a chance to beat us.
The franchise tag was such a horrible idea, it generally does nothing but piss the player off. I can't believe they got that into the CBA, I wonder if it will survive the next one.
I think one of the major sticking points for the NFLPA is that there is NO franchise tag in the next CBA. I'm not 100% sure how adamant they are on getting rid of it though.
The franchise and transition tags shouldn't go away.....but they should be overhauled. The idea is to make sure you don't lose the face of your franchise, not to slap a non-negotiable one year deal on guys when they don't like your offer. Make it tougher to qualify (3 or 4 years with the team and/or making the Pro Bowl), and make it so it can't be used twice on the same player. Heck, make it so a team can't use it two years in a row period. Handing a guy $20M isn't cheap. It was being said late in the season that they were going to do this, because they don't dare give him an extended deal with guaranteed money yet. They want to be sure he's on the straight and narrow and has heavy incentive to do so. They didn't tag him because negotiations went sour. Good luck to Kolb at his next stop. Hope he kills himself training this offseason, because he can't afford a shaky, rusty start to next year.
I like that idea. They can only use it twice on a player now I believe, why not eliminate that completely. I think they have a good idea he is on the straight and narrow after two seasons. I think they don't want to give him a long term deal right now for a multitude of reasons. 1. The CBA issue makes it difficult. 2. They want to make sure they can count on him for several more years and they don't want to see regression or major injury issues this upcoming season especially given the fact that he'll have the whole offseason and preseason to work with the first team offense. 3. They want to see if Reid can continue to win with him. I think Reid has a lot more at stake than most people realize. After seeing the Eagles compete well this past season and the fact you can't give him a rebuilding year, I think his leash continues to shorten with this team. 4. QBs usually demand the largest contracts and they don't want to hand over a bigger chunk of guaranteed money than they have to without seeing what they have first. 5. They're hoping Kolb stays on, even though he has stated he wishes to start, and if regression appears with Vick then elevate him to starter and make him the long term QB with a long term contract.
