should texans pick this guy up for more depth? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=chadiha_jeff&id=2987771
He plays MLB on a 4-3 defense, I think I'll take Demeco over him. If he will pay for the minimum and play back-up role, then yes he's more than welcome.
Funny, I was just talking about him today. A son of one of my co-workers played with him at SFA. He said that a Spring practice had to be shut down once because Trotter injured two players.
Most likely was a cap move Im thinking. The Eagles were trying to talk him into retirement IIRC. Might be interesting to see if he still has some gas left in the tank. Id take him for 1 year for a lower range salary to back up Ryans.
The guy is a pro bowler, he's not gonna play for the minimum and be a backup on a crappy team. R u CRAZY????
I think he's likely to retire. He loved playing in Philadelphia and didn't seem all that aggrieved when he was cut. From the AP: "It's a tough pill to swallow, but everyone gets to this point in their career at some point or another, and now is my time," the 30-year-old Trotter said at a news conference. "I'm just thankful that I spent this many years in Philadelphia. I truly believe that if you were to cut me, I'd bleed green." With his hard hits and emotional play, including the ax-swing he would pantomime after big plays, Trotter was a crowd favorite in Philadelphia. "Jeremiah Trotter will go down as one of the all-time greats in Philadelphia Eagles history," Reid said. "He's a top-notch person." His release before roster cuts will give Trotter a chance to catch on with another team - if he doesn't choose to retire. "This keeps his options open here where he's not officially retired," Reid said. "If he chooses to go to another team, he can. If he choose to retire, he can." Trotter said he has not yet made a decision. "I still believe that I have a couple good years left. But, everyone thinks that when it's time to go," he said with a laugh.
My buddy who's a major Eagles fan told me that his knees are shot. He dropped weight to try and get past it, but just wasn't going to win out his position. Him + Spikes on the field meant a very slow LB unit with no range. Evan
i originally thought he would be a sure addition to any team but now after doing much more research... he needs to retire
I went to school at SFA at the same time as Trotter and heard from a person in the athletic dept that he punched out a DB's two front teeth in a pick up basketball game in the Johnson Coliseum.
I hope he goes somewhere as he is still a servicable LB... On a side note, did anyone catch the game last night (Eagles vs. Pit)...Kolb was pretty amazing...
This is true. As the biggest Eagles fan on this board I can tell you that's exactly why the Eagles released him. I loved Trotter and his intensity and leadership but he lost a step and it showed last year as teams exploited not only the run against the Eagles but also the pass, especially over the middle. He did drop about 14 pounds but obviously the Eagles staff still saw some problems with his speed, agility and range. If he can still play I hope he gets picked up somewhere, preferably out of the division and on a team that does not play the Eagles this season.
