The E3 2005 Thread

E3 doesn't really start until Wednesday, IIRC, but Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will each have their own press conferences either today or tomorrow, so this whole week may potentially have important news every day.

Personally, I'm happy that each of the big three should be unveiling their next-gen consoles this week in some shape, way or form. I can't wait to hear about all the things Sony and Nintendo have planned, plus anything that hasn't been leaked by Microsoft yet. Hopefully, the stuff we see from E3 will be better than the crap MTV showed us.

That said, I'm pretty excited about current-gen stuff too. Just a few games I'd like to see stuff from includes: Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy 12, Kingdom Hearts 2, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children (not a game, but still cool), Zelda, Killer 7, Black, Urban Reign, some PC games (not sure if that counts as current-gen though), some stuff on the PSP and DS, and whatever else I may have left out or may be announced at E3 (I'd love a God of War 2, even though it may be better to have that on the PS3).

So a lot to look for this week. For today, Sony and Microsoft will be having special press conferences. I'm more interested on the Sony one since little is know about the PS3. One rumor flying around is that Sony and Apple are teaming up, and there will be some type of iPod/iTunes support for the PS3, and no telling what else. There's also a rumor that MGS 4 and Hideo Kojima's next game will be shown tonight at Sony's event. So tonight may be a crazy night if all that stuff is true...or it may just be another boring PowerPoint.

BTW, I'll probably be unable to keep you guys updated on this stuff tonight due to a school event, so you may have to find your own ways staying on top of things. I'm sure IGN or Gamespot will put up anything newsworthy, and like I've mentioned before, the Gaming-Age forums are pretty nice for updates on these things.

 

I've heard that the price of gas is much worse over in other places of the world, such as the UK, at least once you go the conversions (stupid dollar/gallon to pound/liter conversion).

If I was going to take this thread off-topic though, I'd be talking about that billboard slightly past the gas sign.

 

Take Two bought the developer studios that did those games for Microsoft a little while back. Probably a month or so before Take Two bought the complete rights to the 2K sports games. The Microsoft deal was a bargain for TT though, which led many to think that maybe they promised something else to Microsoft, such as something dealing with GTA. I'm not sure if that was the case, but at the time, it seemed like GTA:SA would be a PS2 exclusive, so maybe that had something to do with it...or maybe nothing at all.

 

I think TT and Sega co-published it up until this last year at some point, when TT paid Sega, IIRC, so that TT could publish by themselves. I'm thinking it went into effect with the baseball game (MLB 2K5). I'm looking at my own copy of ESPN NBA 2K5, which still has SEGA on it (as well as Sega and Take two on the info on the back), but I'm looking at a box cover of the MLB game on the Internet and I don't see SEGA on the front cover, which seems to be replaced by the "2K" logo. I think they did this, TT got the rights to VC and the team that does the hockey and baseball games. Krush studios or something like that.

I'm basically going off of what I remember from a press release several months back, and I didn't really know the specifics of the Sega-Take Two deal prior to that one, so I hope that all makes sense.

It may take me ~30 minutes to finally be able to watch it, so I don't have any impressions on it yet, although it sounds like it is pretty awesome. Maybe some of you guys with better download speeds that me can back that up...please.

edit: Just watched it, and decided on something to get myself for my birthday this year.
