with the switch to ethanol additive to gasoline rather than mtbe (on may 5th), i figured i'd ask... what are you opinions on the switch.

personally i think willie is on to something using biodiesel rather than ethanol.

so which is it, e10 or b20? both can run on cars with no mods needed.

Yeah that switch is probably going to mean higher gas prices (as if they aren't high enough) because of an ethanol shortage.

This is kind of off-topic, but someone once told me a story that their college professor told them (this was in the 80's when the professor told the story)....

The professor had a story of an old lady that bought a new car, and filled it with a new tank of gas. The lady drove the car around for weeks, but her gas gauge didn't move an inch. Finally, the lady figured her gauge must be broken, and she must almost be out of gas, so she took it in. Well, the shop inspected the car, and found a full gas tank.

I don't remember exact details, but I guess after calling nearly everywhere, the shop contacted some government agency (I have no idea which one). After this call, the lady's car was quickly picked up. They replaced her car with another brand new one, and nothing was ever mentioned of it again.

That story always seemed really odd to me....

i saw something about this on TLC.

What I saw on it was that this couple got a new car, and when they drove it they thought their gauge was broken or whatever. They went to fill up the gas, and when they did, the tank only took a bit of it, cause it said it was full or whatever. They kept on driving it. One day they saw two dudes in suits looking under the hood, pulled something out, and drove off in another car.

And when they went in their car, it acted like a normal.

I'm sure that story was popular in the 70s, and it is resurfacing again.

Let me find that urban tale website.
