Anyone have this? I self-diagnosed myself with this about a year ago.

I've had writing problems my whole life. I don't really have any other issues as stated above, but when I write, it gets progressively worse and my hand and arm cramps badly. No matter what I've done, it's sucked.

I had to take a written, proctored essay exam yesterday, and by page four I had to take breaks every few sentences to rest my hand and arm.

I have no issues typing or doing anything else. Anyone else have issues like this?

This is an example from wikipedia, not my handwriting

    More info:

    What is Dysgraphia? link

Dysgraphia is a neurological disorder characterized by writing disabilities. Specifically, the disorder causes a person's writing to be distorted or incorrect. In children, the disorder generally emerges when they are first introduced to writing. They make inappropriately sized and spaced letters, or write wrong or misspelled words, despite thorough instruction. Children with the disorder may have other learning disabilities; however, they usually have no social or other academic problems. Cases of dysgraphia in adults generally occur after some trauma. In addition to poor handwriting, dysgraphia is characterized by wrong or odd spelling, and production of words that are not correct (i.e., using "boy" for "child"). The cause of the disorder is unknown, but in adults, it is usually associated with damage to the parietal lobe of the brain.
    Is there any treatment?

Treatment for dysgraphia varies and may include treatment for motor disorders to help control writing movements. Other treatments may address impaired memory or other neurological problems. Some physicians recommend that individuals with dysgraphia use computers to avoid the problems of handwriting.
    What is the prognosis?

Some individuals with dysgraphia improve their writing ability, but for others, the disorder persists.
    What research is being done?

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and other institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) support dysgraphia research through grants to major medical institutions across the country. Much of this research focuses on finding better ways to treat, and ultimately, prevent dysgraphia.

Jesus Christ. Does everything have to be a disability?

    This isn't a condition. It's called lazy.

My oldest son has this, and your handwriting is far better than his.......maybe you are holding the pencil too hard.

We have held off making any accomodations for it, like a computer in the classroom etc, and he is a straight A student, but any writing assignment is like war around our household.

And it takes...forever.....and don't even get me started on him writing in cursive, he just can't do it well and he is in 6th grade.

Honestly, I don't care either, because my handwriting sucks, but I can type over 100wpm, so I am sure we will eventually get him a notebook.

if it's about writing disabilities why does it have to be so hard to spell?

    LOL

You said what I wanted to say, sir. They just don't want to work on writing neatly.

Mrs. SwoLy has a new stamp for her students... it's called the "Turn this in again neatly" stamp. Good times.

In in México, they used to make us do 2000 circles and 2000 "sticks" in a certain way on a paper... and you would get a bad grade if not neat. NO ONE had that crappy "disability" there.

My handwriting is awful, worse than what you've posted. However, I can sketch and paint really well..not all was lost.

I'm 37 and I didn't really have the alternative of a computer. I'm glad you have it, DD.

    It's real.

MB and Swoly... I guess you go up to people with cystic fibrosis and tell them to work harder at walking straight. Or people with Multiple Sclerosis don't 'look' handicapped so they don't deserve a handicapped placard. Deaf people should just try harder at hearing. Or that lazy ass Steven Hawking should get rid of that wheelchair and voice box...

    Xero,

It does indeed exist, did you have any coordination issues?

Ignore the ignoramouses, who don't realize how tough it is to be unable to write without going really slowly and concentrating to the point of exhaustion.

Whatever. You write nice when you want to and you don't write nice when you don't try. It's called being lazy.

I think you are being ridiculous to compare yourself to someone with cystic fibrosis or Steven Freaking Hawking. You are nuts.

My coordination is great. I don't really have any other issues (that I know of) with any kind of body control. When I was a kid I had horrible migraines, something that my father and my brother had too- but they went away once I hit puberty. Not sure if it's related.

I can write nicely when I write very, very, very slowly. Still, it gets harder and harder the more I write. It also hurts more and more. Does it hurt when you write? Cramp your arm?

I'm not comparing myself to anyone. I was pointing out that you must have a double standard. Be compassionate and believe that there are issues inside people's bodies that you can't see OR be a prick. Don't vacillate.

It is a fine motor skill deficiency, and usually folks out grow it, or learn to compensate for it.

Why not get a notebook and type out your stuff......writing is dead today anyway.

You're comparing CYSTIC FIBROSIS to writing illegibly?

You're kidding, right? One is a physical condition dealing with cysts, the other is "you don't like to practice your handwriting"...

YOU ****ING PISSED ME OFF WITH THAT COMPARISON, SIR. SERIOUSLY.

I do. I type everything. It was brought to the forefront for me yesterday when I had to take a written exam (the professor is hitting 80, he is old-school.

I practiced, and practiced. I had to practice, because my handwriting sucked. Which made it worse. I wrote, a lot. I made good grades. But it sucked.

I don't care if you're pissed off. You and MB blew off a legit disability because you don't believe in it. People didn't believe in germs until 150 years ago. There are things that you don't understand. My ex-girlfriend had MS. Her parents thought she was just 'clumsy'. Who's the ******* here?

It has nothing to do with "practicing your writing"..........if you don't know the truth, then you would do all of us a favor and kindly.

    Shut the **** up !

Who needs to practice handwriting anymore?

You are way out of bounds on this one Swoly, I am not saying Xero has it, but I would bet you any amount of money that your wife (if she is a teacher) knows all about it.

Try helping your 12 year old with a writing assignment that should take 30 minutes and it takes 4 hours because of it.....

Seriously, if you don't know about it, then you should not be making judgements.

Why not ask your wife, I am sure she knows it exists.

If you care for your writing, you would, but I see you don't, since you do "everything" on the computer now. I still take notes with my notebook during meetings, and my handwriting is neater than most people. I use it.
Again, they're TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I'll show you the cysts in the organs... THAT **** is real. Whether the parents knew she had them or didn't is irrelevant to saying "who's the ******* here?"... they're no doctors and can't see inside the body, just like people didn't "believe in germs." You can't see those.

Did you say you had these problems your entire life? No one is judging anything.
