Houston Dynamo have organized fund-raising efforts to assist Virginia Tech University in the wake of the school's recent tragedy. At Dynamo's April 29 game vs. Chicago, a number of programs are in place to aid the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.

For every ticket purchased from a special Supergroup for this game (more details soon on this website), the team will channel $8 to the Memorial Fund. In addition, Dynamo will wear special uniforms with Virginia Tech's maroon color. These jerseys will later be autographed and auctioned, with all proceeds going to the Fund. Other game memorabilia will be auctioned, along with other fundraising activities surrounding the game.

"The event at Virginia Tech was a touching tragedy. This tribute is the Dynamo family's attempt to assist in the healing process in the Blacksburg community," said Dynamo president and general manager Oliver Luck.

Dynamo urge all university alumni groups and businesses throughout the state to take part in this special group ticket offer to help support the Memorial Fund.

"We feel that holding this tribute is the right thing to do," said Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti. "Our hearts go out to Virginia Tech and the Blacksburg community. We hope our efforts bring some relief to those affected."

I don't see the fascination with having teams wear something OUT OF THE ORDINARY in order to raise funds or to have people give money. Man, can't they just GIVE the effin' money to the funds instead of masquerading their efforts by telling us fans "you can contribute by coming to our game and buying these..." ??

    ;) This one's for you, RocketMan95:
One of those jersey's WHAT? Can you finish your sentence, please?

it gives the fans a chance to participate. it's a community coming together sort of thing...there's healing in that, too. and none of this is mutually exclusive with the dynamos owners writing their own checks to the fund..which i would suspect they probably will do.

Not real sure why that was directed towards me, either.

I would go to the game, there's no rockets-jazz playoff game on April 29. Also, I think C. Blanco from Mexico will be at the game, he signed with Chicago at the start of the MLS season.

Blanco won't be playing, he's still under contract with America until the opening Mexican season is over, then he'll join Chicago.
