Soccer 4 All has pictures of the new Dynamo jerseys up now. It's a improvement over last years but they could still be much better. And the draft was today, Houston added 4 players. I doubt we'll see much of any of them though. John Michael Hayden Corey Ashe Mike Sambursky - From Katy, TX Eric Ebert
The authentics should have a small "scudetto" on the right chest. After this year we'll get a star over the badge. Here's what the Galaxy jersey looked like with it. Also, the authentic jerseys will have the shirt sponsor instead of "Houston" or "Dynamo" across the chest. They haven't announced who that will be yet.
The Galaxy gets a quarter of a billion dollars for the wee Englishman and his Pop Tart of a wife, the Dynamo get new uniforms. That's fair.
First, the Galaxy are only paying about 9 million a year for Beckham. Second, the Dynamo are still looking for players to use their DP slot on. Third, I dig the new jerseys. I'll be picking both up in the long-sleeve variety.
Oh, you showed me . The fact remains that they're spending more than 4 times the salary cap for the rest of the team on one player. Spending loads of money on big-name, past their peak international stars is what ended up dooming the NASL. Personally, I hope this works and Beckham and some other rumored stars (Edgar Davids, Pavel Nedved, Ronaldo, del Piero, maybe even Zidane) do bring the MLS a boost of popularity and make it a viable entity in American sports and make it a popular destination for other stars just entering their athletic peak, thereby upgrading the level of play and visibility on the international scene. I just hope they haven't tried to do too much too quickly and end up exploding. But hey, I guess someone can't have a sarcastic post without having to defend themselves from someone else.
i'm surprised it took 7 posts to get to it.... at least they won despite the crappy name... the new jerseys look nice, i do like the color scheme.
People only like 1836 because they can't have it. I'm tired of the references to good Ole' Texxxas!!! Dynamo represents the current energy industry that Houston leads the world in, despite Enron's collapse.
I wasn't trying to "show" anybody. You made a factually inaccurate comment and I corrected you. I wasn't trying to sound smarter or anything. The league is doing well financially and by bringing in Beckham, their jersey sponsorship becomes more lucrative and I wouldn't be surprised if they make the entire salary back in the sponsorship alone. They also sold 2500 season tickets in the hours after the announcement. The league has been around for 10 years so I don't know if you can call this too quickly. They're allowing each team to splurge on one player. I bet we've all heard more about MLS in the mainstream media in the past day than we have in the last 10 seasons combined. That's why Beckham is worth it.
I thought the Galaxy only pay $500K, MLS another $1.5 million or so, and the rest is thru sponsorships afforded by Adidas mostly($47 mil).
