Bob Dylan's playing Verizon Wireless in Houston Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23. Also Austin Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th.

The floor at Verizon's general admission. I'll be the one up front.

Damn...I thought you were talking about a Beverly Hills 90210 reunion show...

Will they be providing complimentary ear plugs, or do you have to bring your own? :)

I love Dylan, but he was crap at last years rodeo. Im sure he was just getting in the rodeo spirit but all he played was these terrible country songs, I think He played everybody must get stoned and that was it

ZZ-top is at the rodeo tonight though should be a good show!

Have fun! Tell Bob to come back to Seattle for his annual October concert. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, BJ. From checking out the set lists, Like A Rolling Stone is rarely played on this tour. I hope he uncorks it in Austin and I hope I'm there, regardless!

When I flew from Perth to Sydney a couple of weeks ago, Bob Dylan was sitting in the row in front of me!

I was on the third row last time around, listening to Bob's genius over Charlie Sexton's attention demanding and attention deserving electric guitar.

I think I will go for the second row this time.

I went to the Dylan show at the Rodeo last year. The only things that were crap about it were the abbreviated Rodeo set and the Astrodome sound system. Dylan played two tunes he rarely plays live ("Lay Lady Lay" and "I'll be Your Baby Tonight"), and as far as the second one goes, he hadn't played it onstage in 10 years. He totally tailored the set with his country-ish tunes, and I thought the song selection was fantastic. It was a special gig that the normal rodeo-goer obviously didn't appreciate. I've seen Dylan about 10 times, and I will definitely be at one of the Verizon shows.

johnheath: you're a Dylan fan? And a Rocket fan? I guess you're not such a twerp. And I guess there's a reason politics are avoided in polite conversation. You may be sad to learn that Charlie Sexton's left the band. Dylan'll still be there though.

The rodeo show was disappointing to me for the reasons Rocketman Tex noted. The sound was incredibly bad and the short set was a drag. The crowd was really bad, too. I've seen Dylan maybe fifty times -- always to fans who were excited to be there. At the dome, half the crowd seemed more interested in their hot dogs. All in all, it was the most disappointing of the shows I've seen. The next show in Austin though was among the best.

Deckard: Go to that link again. They've got ticket info up for Austin now. $40, all general admission. They go on sale this Saturday morning. It'll probably sell out immediately.

davo: Wild. Did he say anything?

How come Batman? Other opportunities? Another gig producing Lucinda Williams? Or just sick of the road?

Ugh!! I saw that concert. In a 60,000 indoor football stadium with what must have been radioshack economy computer speakers for sound. Couldn't tell which nasal whine was Dylan, and which was Petty:D

Still glad I went. This way I can tell my kids I actually saw Dylan - bet that will impress them..???..

    Can't deny the man's a genius though.

I saw them at the Erwin Center in Austin and it was unbelievable!
    (as in unbelievably great!)

Concerts in stadiums, especially covered ones like the Dome, and amusement parks are terrible by definition... unless you're in the first few rows/center, imo. That's not true about outdoor concerts with good sound systems and no walls and/or ceilings to bounce the sound around a huge space.

I've been to many outdoor concerts that were a blast with great sound, as I'm sure most of you have. I think it must be a real art form to conjure great sound from inherently bad settings. I hope those magicians are paid well. :)
