I think it's a load of crap.... but Wade hasn't really gotten a break this year as far as accusations towards him go. http://www.tmz.com/2009/06/03/dwayne-wade-sues-bogus-baron-for-100-mil/
come on, the nba is probably full of steroids and cocaine (and other drugs). those players earn more money than pop stars. the nba drug policy is basically a joke. it would be pretty naive to think that nba players don't do drugs under this circumstances.
So, if I had easy access to steroids and cocaine, a ton of money, and little oversight, I'd probably be a drug user?
actually, i didn't defend anyone. i don't care about dwyane wade or this other dude. well, i don't know you so i can't answer that question. my point is that it's easy for nba athletes to do drugs. and since those guys are no different than the rest of society it would be very naive to think that some nba players wouldn't do drugs. i'm not saying most nba players take drugs or are addicts or something like this. you guys act as if it's news to you that drugs and doping are a huge part of the modern sports world.
It reminds me of this: http://mvn.com/bucksdiary/2009/03/just-how-did-dwight-howard-get-that-unnatural-physique-hmm.html
No one said that no one in the NBA does drugs/steroids. This is Dwyane Wade specifically. Are you saying he's a drug user? What basis do you have for this? Because it's possible and probably some guys in the NBA do it, he must be doing it? Are you serious?
But he didn't say that he thought Dwyane Wade specifically used anything. GRF's point is: It's not ridiculous to think that performance enhancing and rec drugs are in the NBA. That's it. None of us know about Wade specifically. I personally find it strange that the NBA, out of all pro leagues (along with soccer), dodged the public unmasking of steroids/HGH/etc. Baseball is nearly as tarnished as the WWF, most people realize that the NFL is at least as bad (though no one is upset at all about it).....yet the media and fans refuse to consider that possibility in the NBA. This is a sport where kids realize their growth spurt can be the biggest factor in whether they have a shot in making it to the league. The majority of the US male population is less than 6-foot, but that makes up a very small fraction of the NBA. There's no temptation to "help" the growth spurt along? Call me cynical, but I'm awfully suspicious when we get these 18 y/o's with the body of a 30 y/o. Yes, I'm definitely talking to you, Greg Oden. Several others as well. Does that mean I think steroid usage is rampant in the league? No. Excess bulk hurts you. I'd have to think that it would only be used by guys determined to have a power game (Ben Wallace?) or those rehabbing injury. My suspicion centers on kids in Junior High and High School, wanting to cross that mythical 6-6 line to give themselves a shot at a scholarship. Evan
The way Wade has been getting hurt lately, I have no reason to believe he HASN'T been juicing. Use of Steroids in spurts causes more harmin a short period of time than a person on a consistent cycle. I wouldn't be shocked if Dwight Howard was a major steroid user the way his body is. Dwight was strong as a kid but not even close to as bulked up as he is now. He went from a skinny strong kid, to a muscle bound freak of nature overnight. I have no reason to believe some of the top superstars in the NBA are NOT using steroids. DAVID STERN NEEDS TO RETIRE!
Maybe it is merely a question of grammar, but his first post sounded like he was saying most or all NBA players use drugs: "it would be pretty naive to think that nba players don't do drugs under this circumstances." Maybe a better way to have said it would have been "it wouldn't be surprising that an NBA player would do drugs under the circumstances."
evan you''re usually pretty rational, if there was proof for anyone that steroids made you taller i'm pretty sure it would be more than basketball players taking them. secondly, if you're talking about growth spurts, it doesn't apply to grown men in the NBA
One powerful motion is just not as important in basketball or even soccer as it is in baseball or football. In baseball, if you can get enough power behind your swing to hit homeruns you are a star. In football it's a similar situation, if you have the power to easily push guys out of the way you can wreak havoc. In basketball, the most powerful guys (with the exception of Dwight and Shaq) are scrubs. Guys like Dampier, Diop, Mbenga, Kwame Brown, etc. aren't anywhere near stars. If you take a look at some of the highest paid players in the league (Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Jermaine O'neal, Tracy Mcgrady, etc.) their frail bodies would probably benefit more than anyones from steroids. There just isn't nearly as much incentive to do such a thing.
Not talking about anabolic steroids - talking about HGH. Not talking about them using it in the league, talking about them doing it while in grade school. and to repeat myself: I don't think it's rampant.
