Dwight Howard, on his team's effort in yesterday's loss to the Raptors ::

"We didn't play as good as we needed to play," he said. "We didn't block out on rebounds, we didn't do a lot of the little things and I take the blame for a lot of the stuff that happened tonight. I wasn't there defensively like I should have been."

when i read that, all i could think about was Tracy Lamar.

I understand the Tracy bashing, I do. If I could trade him, I would too. But the above quote is not all that special. He blames the collective team three times before taking any personal responsibility. You can and do find these types of quotes from a bevy of players following any disappointing loss. Plus, Tracy has stepped up and proclaimed it's "all on him" in the past.

Basically, it has nothing to do with what the players say in the media before or after the game, but what they do on the court. If the thought process is that said player is talented enough, on a talented enough team, and should be leading it to wins, playoff wins and potential NBA championships, but doesn't, then it doesn't really matter what they say in the paper the day after.

So, Tracy, don't take notes...that is, don't "not be there defensively" like Dwight apparently wasn't (and you seldom are this season) and don't "take the blame" for losses...just don't lose.

Tracy made his famous "it's on me" statement before the Jazz series started because he was confident of winning. IIRC, he didn't take responsibility after it was over; he cried. If he would actually own up to not giving enough effort when he slacks, that would be a refreshing change from his normal self-serving drivel. Example: His whining about not getting enough shots in the Toronto disaster where he quit on the team. It's those kind of statements that make me want to tell him to "just shut up!"

you may be right, but it wouldn't change the outcome on the court, which is all I care about.

He made the statement because as we've, no one will ever blame Yao,Battier or a scrub like like Hayes. So he's right it was on him win, lose or draw.

Not true. Plenty of people piled on Yao and Hayes. Because Tracy opened his big mouth before the series, wilted in a couple of 4th quarters and cried at the microphone after game 7, he got way more grief than anyone else.

Seriously, you don't remember people here blasting Yao and Hayes? Shane got off easy because he had a decent series and definitely was not the problem. One of the games in Utah, Yao/Tracy/Shane combined for about 65 out of 70 points and people ripped Rafer and Chuck to shreds. Who can forget Yao in game 7 getting blocked by Okur and having the jumping jack known as Carlos Boozer easily jumped over Yao's back to snag a rebound.
