Nothing wrong with seeing a mental health professional.

The team psychiatrist. Who cares. Players are likely encouraged to visit their teams' psychiatrist.

And even if it was a personal psychiatrist, I don't see why that matters.

If I had to deal with Kobe Bryant, I would need to see a shrink too.

With his awful performance last season from the free throw line, I was of the opinion that it was as much mental as physical.

that's what sport psychologists are for. they probably also helped with his mindset while coming back from an injury and dealing with all the pressure and expectations.

Yes, imagine a guy who came straight out of high school (what were you doing?) into becoming a multi-million dollar asset (when have you done this?), to NBA's loved one to hated one (or this?) in one season needing a shrink. Hard to imagine.

Not directed at anyone specific. But, yes, one would imagine he would need a shrink or two.

    Especially for free throws.
In practice, DH is an 82% FT shooter IIRC from a pic of the stats board from Lakers' practice.
In the game it's all mental, he's overthinking it.

If he did see a shrink, that's not a big deal. Everyone who resides in Los Angeles sees one -- or should.:p

Agree with Thumbs... That is a very LA thing to do. The strippers will fix his mind in Htown.

Everything the guy says is setting up for an exit. If he remains in LA, he will have to be a people pleaser.

There is no such microscope in Houston. Maybe Clutchfans.....

Apparently it's between his legs too, he thinks too much but can't think to stop having babies with different women? I get the "It's everyone else's fault" vibe from Dwight and this is just a cop out.

There was no microscope in Miami until LeBron came there. Microscopes follow the stars. This dude needs to keep seeing a sports psychologist and perhaps a non-sports psychologist. He needs someone help him to get his mind able to deal with scrutiny, because, no matter what team he plays for, it will follow him.

For everything. But, I'm assuming his plummeting free throw percentage was brought up at appointments. That's one aspect of the game that is far more mental than it is physical.

I'm a Licensed Counselor and was just talking with one of my colleagues yesterday about this. My practice has a few that specialize in sports psychology. Man I'd love to get into that population of work myself. Could combine two of my passions =)

I'm encouraged by this. Not sure if it was his idea or the team's, but he has too much talent to be wasted by what's "between his ears." I think most of his missteps off the court were caused by him being immature and trying to please everyone. On the court, the injuries brought him down and trying to play himself back into shape last year didn't help. It sounds like he's realizing that. Here's to hoping we can land a physically and mentally healthy Dwight this summer!

Dumb thread. He used a team-provided resource to help himself. End of story.
