I'm sure someone out there will be able to help me.... I bought Spies Like Us DVD yesterday (great film, btw), and played it on my PS2. Just before the movie started, the screen flickered and I got a message 'This film has been modified from it's original version. It has been modified to fit your screen.' So the movie starts, and it's all in black and white! So I stop it, and put in another DVD, which works perfectly. At first I think it's a problem with the Spies Like Us DVD, but it worked on my PC DVD. My questions are: is there anyway to fix this? What exactly is going on? What does the message really mean? Thanks
I don't know much about PS2... but one possibility might be the DVD is set for diffrent area zone... e.g. for europe/asia use instead of usa... & it's possible that PS2 does not support multi zone... If that's the case you probably can't do much about it...
The message about the movie being modified is because the DVD is in full-screen rather than the original widescreen that was projected in theaters. It doesn't have anything to do with it being in B&W. Don't know why it's playing in B&W.
I don't think it's a region problem, because I've tried playing region 1 DVD's on my PS2 before (it's region 4), and they just haven't played at all. An error message about wrong region comes up. I'll see if it happens on my friends PS2 when he gets back from holidays.
If you have a Region 4 PS2 and you put in a Region 1 disc, it either won't work or the image will be all distorted because the player can't do NTSC-to-PAL conversion.
I had this sort of problem once..except it wasnt on PS2. Turns out that my DVD remote has a button for changing to B/W (cant imagine why)..but it had been accidently set to show a movie in B/W. Just a thought..
