Since I have a DVD-ROM in my home PC and either: -don't always necessarily have control of my living room TV where my DVD player is (read: wife has remote), or -need to watch some other region DVDs (read: hot midget Azerbaijani pr0n) Only problem is that the RealMagic software that came with my card is as intuitive to me as English is to Keith Richards. It sucks harder than a black hole. It... you get the point. Do any of you guys use WinDVD, or another program? Which would you recommend, and why? There may be some money involved in getting new software - for instance, WinDVD costs about fifty - therefore I'd like a little input from peeps who may have had some experience with these programs.
My Dell Laptop came with InterVideo's WinDVD 2000. It has performed quite well. I don't watch movies on my laptop, but we have taken it and used it to watch DVDs in Hotels and at folks houses who don't have DVD players. I don't do much other than put in a movie and hit start and in that respect it hasn't failed me.
WinDVD 2000 has been good to me. I would recommend it. A list of dvd decoders: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/playback.html http://www.hoyty.com/dvd/ Hope this helps.
WinDVD and PowerDVD are among the best. WinDVD usually gets the nod in most reviews. You can probably get an OEM version online for about $7 as opposed buying the retail version (both are the same). Not sure what the legalities for the OEM version of it are - you may have to buy hardware with it. If not, enjoy the savings...
Get POWER DVD XP. The XP version gives you DTS. Even with 4 tinny speakers...the DTS decoding it does is AMAZING in a small room.
There's a version of Win DVD 4 that does DTS, Dolby ProLogic, and Dolby EX. Keeley, Here are the two links for PowerDVD and WinDVD : WinDVD PowerDVD
