Can you get a "good" DVD player for around $100??? I don't need one with tremendous bells and whistles...just one that plays DVD's and won't break on me!
I'm in the same boat. My PS2 just isn't cutting it for DVD viewing. The lowest I see DVD players around here are 120. They have one in a local Super Market for 100, I don't know If I am brave enough to buy a DVD player from a Grocery store yet. wal-mart.com has this - http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...37&product_id=1695844&path=0:2637:77934:77937
My roommate bought the APEX from Wal-mart a few weeks ago 'cause he wanted a DVD player on his bedroom TV. He hasn't had any problems that I know of. Price is definitely right.
My wife and I got two DVD players as wedding gifts, and returned the Apex player to Wal Mart, unopened. When I was in line at the Wal Mart customer service desk, the lady behind me said she bought two of the Apex machines, and both of them broke down on her. If I were you, I'd drop the extra cash on a well known brand. You can get a good DVD player for $120-130. One thing I can tell you is to stay away from Emerson at ALL costs when it comes to personal electronics. TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, etc...If it has Emerson on it, chances are it will suck...
http://www.dvdplayerpricesearch.com/ Try this place - they have a link for a 10$ of 100$ coupon at BUY.COM which has a lot of DVD players. They also have a 3 disc APEX dvd player at walmart.com for 99$ http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...ype=19&dept=3944&path=0:3944:3987:62055:77582 hope the link works... Belated Congrats on the wedding A-Train!
I own the Apex 1100W from WalMart. Works OK so far. Main complaint is the crappy remote. The arrow buttons share the number keypads so you have to press this SHIFT key to use the arrows (which results in SHIFT being displayed on screen). Major hassle but maybe a Universal Remote might be able to replace it. Also the dimensions of this player are kinda odd. It's square shaped so it's as deep as it is wide. Might look odd depending on your set up. It's also a bright silver. Circuit City sells a black version, the 1200 that also has a better remote but supposedly it doesn't play SVCDs as well as the 1100. (APEX uses different internal parts in different models) this player also plays JPG discs. so you can burn a cd with a bunch of JPGs and it will play them like a slide show. can play mp3 discs too. For the price it's not bad but the remote is a real pain.
I just got a 19 inch Emmerson television with the built in DVD from Wal-Mart. It's really good so far, I love it. I guess it doesn't fall under the category of 'cheap' since it has a TV too, but $250 for a 19 inch tv w/built in DVD player. It is super easy to use.
On the walmart ad I noticed a ( Video RF Modulator ) offered as an accessory. What the hell is Video RF Modulator ? Thanks, SJ
i'm pretty sure that it modulates the signal from the XT driver and adapts it to the 220 line. 220..221..whatever it takes.
I think this is for TV's with only a co-ax jack and no RCA or S-Video jacks. MadMax, I've had it for about 3 months. Some Apex models are hackable to disable macrovision copy protection (so you can make VHS copies of DVD movies) and also make the players Region-Free. Here is a good BBS forum about the 1100w
i'm just kidding...i'm the least technical person you've ever met...and you've never even met me! huh? RM95 was right...the "220...221" thing is from Mr. Mom...I was just looking for an excuse to use that line. good call, RM!!!
you are correct. a RF mod converts the separate A/V signals from RCA cables into VHF TV signals via co-ax cables
slightly off topic I just bought the Say Anything DVD without ever having seen the movie before and I must say I was so very disappointed. I just didn't get what was so great about the story. I actually liked Serendipty more. I'm not that much of a Cameron Crowe fan anyway but the reviews for this film were all 5 stars on Amazon. It was only $11.99 @ CircuitCity but I still regret buying it.
You see, Outlaw, if you weren't gay to begin with, then you wouldn't have bought that movie, thus saving youself 12 bucks and two hours of your life.
I got a APEX DVD player about a year back for my sons room from Wallmart. He plays all his DVD's just fine on it and no problems with it. I agree with outlaw that the remote isnt that great but its a small problem. For my home theatre I have a Sony that is real nice and has been dependable too but I spent more on it.
