I finally got a DVD drive for my PC.

I've used PowerDVD at work and it's ok. Various sites on Google recommend WinDVD.

    Any other suggestions?

I'm sure this is a dumb question so forgive me. I was thinking about getting one myself (I almost got one a couple of weeks ago) but I don't know why I would need it.What are they for and does it not come with the software or is just better to get something else?

really no use for it, unless your a gamer, i believe there are some games out there that use DVD media now. But I guess it maybe needed in the near future since DVD Burners are standard and bunch of people are going to use it to actually burn media on it to transfer from one pc to another along with making "duplicates" of movies :)

as for software, all of them are pretty much the same. hell, i just use Media player to play DVDs
