I just bought a Sony DVD player about 2 weeks ago and I have rented quite a few DVDs since my purchase. Are there some DVDs out there that can't be played in full screen format? The last two nights I have watched "Men of Honor: Special Edition" and "Woman on Top". I could get neither to play in a full screen format. My DVD player gives me three different screen options: Letterbox, Pan Scan, and 16x9 wide. Both of the aforementioned DVDs are produced by FOX and are the only DVDs I have had trouble with. Has anyone else experienced this before? I know this isn't a big deal to most people, but it really bothers me to have to watch a movie with two black bars bordering the picture. My television is small enough as it is. ------------------
Yeah, sometimes with those options you can select a width that will cover your whole screen but your picture will looked stretched. The only thing I can really tell you is that you need at least a 43 inch tv to get the absolute best picture with widescreen DVDs and the bad thing about it is most DVDs come in widescreen format. ------------------ Arkansas' Biggest Rocket Fan!
I have the same problem. The "regular" screen format option on your DVD player will only work if the format is present on the DVD. Most, you don't have the choice -- the theater format is the only option. ------------------ Stay Cool...
it's really ridiculous. before DVD's used to at least give you the option. one side of the disc was widescreen and the other was standard. now, it's rare to see that choice. how many 4x3 TVs are out there anyway? less than 1% i imagine. even TV shows are getting into the act of letterboxing (ER, Sopranos). ------------------
