Why does he rest two players every day? Today, for example, Tucker is out with a bad back, and he rests Altuve and Uncle Mike. So, we have two players in the lineup that can't hit a lick. We need to score runs because our bullpen is so bad.
We still won... this is a vet mgr move. We already know we can kick ass with our starters. Save em for the end of the season and playoffs. Give these bench guys some burn and gain confidence for a deep run. Toro and McCormick proved to be more than servíciale. That will give dusty so much confidence in the long run.
Dusty isn't doing this unilaterally. If you don't like it that's fine, but it's an organizational choice.
I don't think of it as resting players as much as giving the depth on the team a chance for some reps. Heaven forbid one of our studs goes down with an injury during the playoffs, we'll benefit from guys like Chasmick, Aledmys, Taylor Jones, Toro, Stubbs, etc getting comfortable during the season. Baseball is not a physically taxing game for position players who are in good shape. That's why MLB schedules games basically 6 out of 7 days... NBA is 2-3x a week and NFL is 1x a week.
He's right behind Ron Swanson as my favorite recent TV characters. Andre Braugher plays the deapan humor so well. Related quote: "The only 2 things I hate are liars, and skim milk. Which is water lying about being milk."
Didn't Dusty pretty much roll out his regular starters vs. Baltimore in route to a sweep? He rests them against a good team and we get the opposite results.
While FO and trainers has input, it is Dusty's choice. He seems to be doing a good job at resting position players based on their input as well as players'.
Say what you want about Dusty.. But it kinda seems he knows how to keep this team rested and stress free...
