Thats great but I fear I just might be expecting too big a performance boost from our secondary now. If anything I really hope he can teach the other DBs how to hit that diving tackle.
Doesn't look like he was relaxing in his extra time off. I don't really care about the hold out. Great to have you back Dunta.
Man when Mario walks by it is just another reminder of what a complete freak that guy is. Please never have Mario hold out.
Interesting to see what the Texans will do if Ryans, Robinson, and Daniels all have real good seasons. Doubt all 3 will be back 2010
Ryans is the face of the defense, and the Texans will do everything in their power to keep him. Daniels' value is as high as it will ever be in his career, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him shipped to another team for picks or young talent on the defensive side of the ball, preferably the secondary. Robinson's been frustrated with the Texans' front office for a couple of years now, and I don't think he'll be in Houston much longer.
Yea it would suck but the Texans know they cant afford to lose Dunta to free agency. Outside of him all our db's put together dont make a decent player.
I could honestly see Owen Daniels becoming the top TE in the league this year. He ended up statistically around #3 last year, and he's only gotten a better rapport with Schaub. Yes we could get a few good pieces for him and yes TE in general is one of the more expendable positions on O, but he really hustles out there. I was not aware that Dunta has had difficulty with the Texans brass years previous, but if thats true then you have to attribute this at least a little to this agent that he and Owen shared, and both had contract disputes. At least on tape I think Dunta has shown nothing but hopes to remain a Texan. I think the most a player has ever been franchised in a row was three, but I cant see either side being happy with that, as well as the other players. And jeez can Smith turn his genius drafting eye towards the secondary?
I'm pretty sure we'll end up keeping DeMeco. Dude looked great against the vikings. He was all over the place. I like Owen, but I wouldn't say he's guaranteed to stay with Casey and the other TE that was drafted. It would be nice to keep them both, but its proving to be tough. As for Dunta, I'm excited to see how he does. I think we'll know by the midway point of the season if the front office really is interested in keeping him long term. Given what he brings I hope it works out. I will say that our secondary needs him more than the O needs Owen. I'd love it if we could keep all three, but don't know how realistic that is. McNair seems like a pretty good owner so who knows how it'll go. I do have to say that while this is a problem, it would be worse to not have great players than to have too many. Not making any bold predictions, but this is how great teams become great. Honestly, looking at the season, how many guys do y'all think we'll have playing at a Pro Bowl level for the year?
I don't understand all the hate on Dunta. He is a good player that was set back by a major injury. He wants a long term deal for stability I'm pretty sure of course its about the $$$ when is it not but I'm willing to bet he'd be up for taking a pay cut just to know he'll have a job for the next few years with a familiar team. In the end its all a business and its about doing whats best for you and yours. If some of you guys where put in their shoes I'm sure you'd have some type of raw feeling over your boss not giving you an extension.
I have no hate for Dunta. He played hurt last year just to help his team. He just wants the respect that a contract extension shows. He's just the type of player that think contracts equal respect. I won't hate on Ryans, Robinson or Daniels for trying to get paid in a league with no guaranteed contracts or a guarantee you will make it past the season healthy enough to play the next.
