Ok...All biases aside, I felt that in the 1st round Francis was absolutely robbed by the Judges on the first dunk, and Vince was overrated on the second dunk.

But man, ohhhhhhh man that 3rd dunk by Vince was absolutely the most stunning dunk ever. Forget the free throw line by Dr. J and Jordan. Forget kiss the rim. That is a poster in millions of homes

Doesn't matter now...Francis in the finals! I guess the best Rockets fans can hope for is for Carter to miss.

That first dunk by Francis, George Gervin gave him an 8... I was thinking George needs to be on medication.

Also uncool if Hill/Stackhouse stole that dunk by Francis/Mobley. Arrgg... that was a sweet idea.

The first and third dunks by Carter were not human.

He deserves to win this contest -- flat out. Francis is awesome and I'm hoping for second. Face it ... Francis wins this we'll deal with "Carter was robbed" comments forever .... the first round for Carter was simply too amazing.

Carter is a very sick man...very sick indeed! I was jumpin' around my room screamin' at that between the legs dunk.

Props to Francis, though. That one that went behind his head was ridiculous!

I agree with Clutch, Vince wins hands down. BUT, not even Vince could leap like Steve....40"? Daaaamn!!!

Hey, despite losing to Vince, it was really close. McGrady can't touch him.

    Wait 'til next year....

Carter's between-the-legs dunk and the one where he hung from his elbow were just nasty. Great show. Steve would've won any other year, with "Half-man-half-amazing" in it... anybody else was 2nd. Stevie did have the highest verticals though. What I didn't like was when Kenny Smith said he gave a makeup point for that last dunk to Carter. It was a contest decided by 3 points, don't give "makeup" points. But that being said, without a doubt Vince deserved it.

One thing I was hoping for was Vince to attempt a 720 which would practically defy human existence. I had heard in the newsgroups that he was going to attempt it and then Shaq said the same thing, but no go...

I know we will hear from all the X-File/conspiracy theorists out there. But let me tell you now...PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!!

Carter is NOT human. Jordan couldn't do what he did tonight. Nique could never do what Carter did tonight. This guy is another breed. Francis would of won over the rest of the league. But Francis can't put it through his legs and dunk like Carter did. And that elbow dunk had me kissing my big screen.

I love basketball. I love it more after seeing this!!

    2nd round...

Francis again robbed on his first dunk. Not that it deserved a 50, but at least a 44-45.

Now, that elbow dunk by Carter initially astounded me, until my 8 year old nephew blurted out: "Yeah but anyone who is taller could probably do that!"

And thinking about it, I thought heck yeah. Garnett, Wallace, and Hill are all players who could probably pull that one off. BUt kudos for inginuity.

All in all I do think Carter got a few points on less than amazing dunks from the crowd. Even Kenny Smith was saying how he was going with the judges and they were collaborating. Even giving Carter 10 when he "probably only deserved a 9"

Carter deserved the win, but Francis size and inability to even palm a ball should of been taken into account.

I guess what Im saying is that Carter deserved the win, but it should of been alot closer with a little unbiased judging.

Vince is awesome but I can't help think that Francis might have won had he been the same build/size. Francis wins most other years. I think Steve got short-changed on that first dunk, too, but it wouldn't matter because Vince won hands down. But, shrink Vince...and then let's see who wins. Plus, Francis beat everyone on vertical leaping ability. Amazing...

Not to pea in anybody's wheaties here, but don't you guys think it would have been a bit more exciting if the defending champ (Kobe) had gotten a chance?

    thacabbage --

I honestly think Kobe did not compete for that reason. No one was beating Vince Carter. It has to be embarrassing for the other guys who are putting up great dunks and they just pale .... Kobe would have been in the same boat.

Really goes to show how spectacular Steve was early -- the crowd really loved Francis ... only Vince was the show so nothing you can do.

Another thing -- want to know why the electricity was back for this dunk contest as opposed to all the dry ones we've seen since the Jordan-'Nique era? Because Carter took the contest seriously. He knows he is an entertainer and he went for new and creative stuff. I have to give him credit... he put on a show and people loved it.

The NBA is LOVING it right now because ads and money are pouring in.

Uncontested dunking by NBA players, when you can even travel, requires less basketball skill than anything they do. Have these guys dunk over Mutombo in this competition and not travel, then I'll be impressed.

    grummett, you old grouch!! [IMG]

That's not a bad idea. They should have one dunk with a defender at the goal.

Clutch, I know what you mean. Ricky Davis and the like had some nice jams, but beside Vince, they looked like some serious chumps.

Hat goes off to Francis...he is just unbelievable. No point guard in the league can do what he does.

Clutch is right. Vince had the killer instinct for this tonight. I know that the league wanted Vince to win, but why? Francis should of gotten higher scores, but why not want Francis to win? The league,in my opinion, would of taken Francis if he would of won.

I just think that Carter was a touch more creative than Francis. Carter didn't miss any major dunks and all the good ones beat everyone elses good ones. I came away with alot of joy tonight. Finally, a great dunk contest.

But I got to say...is it REALLY legal for Francis to be up that high without a pilot license of somekind? No, seriously...

Props to TNT also for putting on Shaq's movie "STEEL" after the Dunk Contest...

We get to see the highest of highs followed by the lowest of lows.
