Did anyone just watch the Duke-FSU finish? Duke finally loses to unranked Florida St., 77-76. Anyway, Jason Williams had one of the more memorable and odd games I have ever seen. He was somewhat cold in the first half, with only five points. But he absolutely lit it up in the second half. At times, I'd rather give up and open 3 footer than let Williams shoot a three. He's that deadly, and that accurate. Always. He hit seven threes in the second half alone to take Duke from down 13 to up 4 in the final minute. Anyway, that's the good part about him. What's amazing is that a guy so lethal from the three point line can be so horrid from the foul line. 0-6 for the night, and all his misses came at the most inopportune times. When Duke was down 3 (61-58) late in the 2nd half, Williams got hammered while shooting a 3. He drained the 3, and it capped a 16-3 run for Duke to tie the game. All he had to do was make a simple free throw to take the lead... horrible brick. Two minutes left, same story. Duke and FSU tied at 71. Williams makes a spectacular move, and draws the foul. All he needs is one to tie it. Neither is close. Duke lucks out, because Carlos Boozer gets the offensive board, gets fouled, and hits both. Then, twenty seconds left, Duke up one. FSU won't foul anyone; they're actually daring Williams to take the ball, and he does. You'd think this kind of treatment would bring out the competitor in anyone. He misses both badly, and FSU hits the game winner the next possession. 0-6 on the line for the game. And this isn't just a one game fluke. With the game tied against Kentucky with 7 seconds left, he had one free throw to win it. Brick. He's missed big free throws repeatedly, and is shooting under 70% on the season from the line. Out of personal curiousity, is there any other great player that you guys can remember being a fabulous perimeter shooter and hopeless from the line? I've seen this happen to an extent, but to totally choke at the line and be almost automatic from three point range all at the same time is almost mind boggling. Just curious if any other major stars have had this phenomenon, or how this affects your opinion on his draft status.

The college forum has about 4 threads in the last two weeks. Since Jason Williams is an NBA prospect, and the question is if any NBA players have had the same phenomenon, I thought it could generate more discussion over here.
Not that I consider myself an expert in whether or not this is the right forum, I don't have any problem with it being here. I am also curious about NBA players bricking from the free throw line yet having no problem from 3 point land. The only thought that's coming to my tired mind is Nick "the Brick" Anderson who missed several key free throws in the first game of the NBA finals against Houston, allowing Houston to make an amazing comeback. If I wasn't so tired I'd check my NBA database to see what I could find. B

I personally am not a big JW fan. He probably will go #1 overall. But, if anyone thinks he is a PG, they are smoking crack. You gotta love that Mobley-esque last second shot he attempted. Unfortunately for him, Dunleavy couldn't bail him out.
I dont watch college ball at all. Some of my friends tell me though that he will be better then Steve in the long run. Is he really that good or does he really have that much potential? Also anyone know how old he is?
He's a pretty good player. He may not be as explosive as far as jumping as Steve, but he is strong and always play under control. He knid of remind me of Tim Hardaway in the early 90's. Similar to Baron Davis, but not as high of jumper. Like a pg with a fullback's body. He will be a good,real good pg in the league because his stroke is already good and his strength to finish plays off. Whoever gets him will get a instant impact player.
An example of a PG who can shoot the 3 but not free throws would be none other than Baron Davis. I'm thinking their overall games are pretty similar too....scoring point guards. Williams is more of a combo guard than a true PG, as he's playing the two guard spot for Duke now, similar to what Francis did in Maryland.
Well what kind of point guard is Baron Davis? He leads his team in points/game, how does that not make him a "scoring PG"?
My fault. I was thinking of Baron from last year, more than this year. Didn't realize he put up 17 shots a game this year. Last year he averaged 11.7 shots per game. So yes, this year he is a shoot-first PG. But he is averaging 8.5 assists. If anything he might be a "combo-PG".
