At least he kept his eyes on the road. Who knows what would have happened if he looked down to find that he was missing his leg. That's a responsible driver.
I don't think he stopped and got off the bike, until later. His friend noticed the leg and thought his friend might need it. How is a force so strong to knock off your leg, but not strong enough to knock you off the bike? I call BS, unless the safety barrier had a blade on it.
I witness the same incident myself. Was riding a motorcyle with my friend drving when another motorbike hit sideswept us. The driver yelled at us, "What the hell are you doing, do you want yourselves killed?" while driving away. We didn't say but "Sorry". the guy looked like a wrestler. Then we stayed for a moment to catch our breath, then we saw the guy driving back and said like a baby, "Did you guys see my index finger?". Yikes!! we found it hanging on the motor basket.
I call BS. A guy with a severed leg would bleed to death very quickly. (a severed finger would probably not cause someone to bleed to death)
UNLESS......the barrier was on fire, and as it removed his leg, it also cotterized the wound as he sped by. It could happen.
The femoral artery, which is inside the femur, is one of the arteries, like the carotid artery in the neck, that when severed can cause you to bleed out in a matter of minutes. If it really took off his whole leg he would be dead, I believe. The big red artery is the femoral artery. I'm not sure, but maybe if they are being generous with 'leg' and it was severed below or at the knee? Obviously, I'm not a doctor but I don't think that below the knee would be immediately fatal if you got a tourniquet on it relatively quickly? Edit: The story says it was severed below the knee. IMO that makes this story relatively possible.
It'd be more funny if it wasn't for the fact the guy was maimed in the accident. I had a friend whose thumb was cut off by a belt when his boss turned on a machine he was leaning against. He felt some pain but didn't realize he was really hurt until his coworker told him. But, that was years ago, and now he makes all kinds of jokes about it.
I had severed my 2 middle fingers so bad in an industrial accident that the only thing keeping them attached was the bottom tendon and a thin piece of skin. When it happened I thought "man that hurt" but did realize how bad until I grabbed my hand and realized from the initial touching of it that - "that ain't right" - they were just hanging. I only looked 1 time for a split second and can still remember the sight from 24 years ago.
I've seen a guy got hit by car. Both his legs below the knee were severed, but there were no blood on the street.
You don't have to believe it. I didn't believe it and I was there standing over him and giving the police report. It was 249 and West Mount Houston BTW.
