From Variety today: Dude, where's my sequel? 'Seriously' looks to lense during '70s' 2003 hiatus By CLAUDE BRODESSER, DAVE MCNARY Dude, you're a star. Twentieth Century Fox is in final negotiations to ink producers Gil Netter and Wayne Rice and original scribe Philip Stark for a sequel to 2000's "Dude, Where's My Car?" Entitled "Seriously Dude, Where's My Car?," pic would follow the adventures of two sophomoric underachievers who -- thanks to some particularly potent mar1juana -- are once more comedically denied the whereabouts of their ride. The decision seems obvious, at least on a financial level: The $14 million pic "Dude, Where's My Car?" has grossed $73 million worldwide to date. The ICM-repped Stark, a former story editor on "That '70s Show" will ink its sequel. If approved by his former " '70s Show" cohort Ashton Kutcher (and original topliner Seann William Scott), plan is for the pic to be lensed during next season's hiatus in 2003. Production prexy Hutch Parker is overseeing the project. Netter most recently produced Colin Farrell starrer "Phone Booth" for the studio. Rice is producing and co-writing casino laffer "Chasing the Whale" and "Sonny Bright," both co-penned with Gina Goldman; the Farrelly brothers are producing the latter.
Just goes to show there are a lot of idiots out there! $73 million? I got an idea...let's make a movie about me cleaning the mud of my dogs feet everytime they go outside and have to come back in when it rains. Wonder how much we can make off that?
I have to admit that I went and saw Dude, Where's My Car? in the theater, so my $6 is part of that $73 million. It was actually a not dissimilar movie that inspired me to get into filmmaking. I know many filmmakers talk about how Citizen Kane or some other highly touted masterpiece made them want to make movies. For me, it was My Boyfriend's Back. I saw it on HBO and thought, "Heck, even I could do better than that."
I spent $6 (or Major did), and I thought it was hilarious. Movies are all relative, and for what it was supposed to be, it was pretty damn funny. "Look, it's a barn." "Is it red?" "No." "Then it's not a barn."
uh, you guys must have seen some OTHER awesome movie because when i sat through this pile of complete CRAP... i did not enjoy it.
Films of this caliber are easy to dismiss, and I admit the urge to types pages of slandering remarks is present. If anything though, I at least respect that the "Dude" was made with a full understanding that it is nothing more than brainless fluff. Now, from what surrounds the entertainment field there is obviously a prevalent market for them. So its only natural for studios to sell it. Nonetheless, being a follower of the industry you learn to waive them off and continue on. If anyone is looking for a something to cleanse your memory of such news, I suggest the fantastically super Scotland, Pa.
what is SAD SAD SAD is that it a cheesy rip of Bill and Ted. . which was crap So this is like Crap squared Rocket River
I don't really see how it is a rip of Bill and Ted's except that it is based on two male characters that are complete dumbasses. By that logic, Dumb and Dumber was a total Bill and Ted rip off too. I didn't think that "Dude..." was a great movie by any standards, but it had about 2 or 3 more laughs than I expected, so I gave it credit where credit is due.
Whether or not you liked the original, a sequel is one of the WORST ideas in the world. Perhaps SWS won't resign, and it will end up to the direct-to-video hell that it belongs in...
'Bill & Ted' is one of my favorite 80s movies of all time! "Put them in the Iron Maiden." "Iron Maiden? EXCELLENT!!" *air guitar*
oops One had time travel and future guys the other had Aliens. . . both put the fate of the universe in the fate of said boobs How could I have missed the dissimilarities The other guy in Bill in Ted. . where is he? Hanging with Peter Scelara? Rocket River Famous second bananas that never seem to do anything else
Bah...two movies based on morons that have to somehow save the universe is not enough to be a "cheesy ripoff." Especially considering that wasn't really the main conflict in "Dude..." Their problem was that they couldn't find their car. The "saving the universe" thing didn't really even come into play until the end. And one movie having "future guys" and the other having aliens doesn't really seem like a similarity. At least, not to me. But I do like your phrase, "notice the dissimilarities." Sounds to me like "Dude..." is a ripoff of Bill and Ted's to you because you obviously hated both movies, and they had a couple similarities.
I liked Road Trip, Something about Mary, Scary Movie 1 +2, Another teen movie, but this movie, sucked. And, I happen to be a fan of Sean Scott.
was the bill and ted movie where they got socrates and napoleon excellent adventure and was that the first or second one. that is a quality movie. don't be dissin' it. I thought "dude" was pretty funny. definitely not the funniest ever but funny. i guess i just like that kinda humor in general. surprising to hear it made $73 million. more than i thought it took in.
There was another Keanu film from 1988 that 'Dude' was quite similar to called The Night Before. Reeves played this high school kid who can't remember the events of the previous night where he was trying to get to the prom with his date. It was actually pretty funny. Dude cost $13 million to make and made $46 million in the US.
