Dubai hospital returns medical equipment manufactured in Israel

    By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent

Medical equipment manufactured in Israel worth over $50 million was returned recently by a Dubai hospital in the United Arab Emirates because it carried Made in Israel labels.

The equipment included staff uniform, patient clothes, bed sheets, pillows and towels. A hospital source refusing to identify itself or the hospital, said the fact the equipment was made in Israel was discovered during routine equipment inspections by hospital staff. "They were stunned to see the Made in Israel labels," he said.

www.gulfnews.com said on Friday the hospital contacted its supplier immediately and advised it will not accept equipment coming from Israel.

"We told out supplier we reject the transaction and are not obligated to go ahead with it if they will not tell us where it comes from. They know we will not take equipment that was made in Israel," said the source.

Israel has opened an unofficial mission in Dubai recently, operated by Israeli diplomats with foreign passports. In addition, the two countries have been holding economic ties for several years and Israeli businessmen visit there regularly holding extensive commercial relations.

Other states in the Persian Gulf have announced recently they would remove the ban on economic ties with Israeli companies, but have stressed they do not intend to hold diplomatic ties with Israel.

Does that surprise you? If it was up to me, I would reject it too.

Yeah, but they acted like that because of some stupid ideological reasons. At least the stupidity of the food rejection/burning was motivated by stupid bureaucracy instead of some hate against another nation/religion. It's still stupid, though.

they returned it because dubai does have a large population of palestinians and many palestinians would rather die than be treated under the equipment of those who are killing their brothers and sisters...

imo, post ww2, would israel take medical equipment produced by nazi germany(had it not been toppled) ?

I think it is ludicrous to compare Israel to Nazi Germany.

Also, yes, they did take medical equipment, reparation payments, etc., and the relationship between the two countries is excellent.

The US rejected all sorts of Katrina aid from Cuba and Venezuela for ideological reasons. Just one of those things - stupid, but it happens.

the relations between israel and germany now is excellent, but would it be the same say if we had not been successful in removing hitler? would the israelis then take help from the same ppl that killed them off?

and yes, most paliestinians feel worse about israelis than about nazi's...

again this will drag into the whose genocide is worse thread...

Umm, dude... that's a dumb question. You really think that if the Nazis were in power in Germany, they would be sending help to Israel?

No, it is stupid to even mention these two things in the same sentence - they are not comparable.

Since the Israelis have not committed genocide, I am guessing the Nazis are going to win that one.

Just wanted to mention that replying to these "shotgun" Muslim threads that gwayneco is posting, without comment, is just encouraging what I see as a twisted attempt at getting attention. Why he feels that it's necessary is a mystery, but that he has targeted one religion for his attentions suggests that he has a real problem. In my opinion.

How can one person have so much hate against a religion?

Gwayneco, seriously, did some Muslim do something to you?

firstly this wasn't 'aid' so you can't compare it to cuba/venezeula.

secondly given that this was equipment sold to UAE they have every right to put in whatever clause they want. and if they did...its their damn perogative.

thirdly since when has dubai given a rats ass about palestinians?
