A misdemeanor drug possession charge against Houston Rockets forward Justin Reed was dropped today. Narcotics officers with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department arrested Reed on the night of Sept. 4 outside a house on Chennault Avenue. Two others, Torey Ross and Christopher Barber, were also arrested. Sheriff Malcolm McMillin said Reed was cleared because “there were affidavits signed by the others arrested that it was their dope.” Reed’s attorney, Dale Danks Jr., said Ross and Barber were classmates of Reed from Provine High School. “(Reed) was in town visiting with old high school buddies. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Danks said. “Justin does not use mar1juana. He does not use drugs.” According to his lawyer, Reed underwent random drug testing while he played for Ole Miss and at least 16 times during his four years in the NBA. “He has never, to our knowledge, tested positive. We had a drug test administered after the arrest, and he did not test positive,” Danks said. “I have to compliment the sheriff, frankly, for dismissing the charges.” Link Well Reed is innocent after all, i guess people are just blaming things on rocket players because we're getting better than other teams (count out boston of course)
Don't worry. I am sure Rafer will follow Reed's advice and pay his brother some cash to sign an affadavit to say the knife was not Rafer's. note: it's just a joke. I am not saying Reed paid his friends off.
SI had an article saying he was released the day after the charges were issued a while back, is this true?
Do you still have the link? I can only find this link with the Rockets spokesman having no comment. If he is released, it wouldn't be a big loss. SI
Funny how this gets ZERO publicity, while the arrest article gets nation wide coverage including headlines on ESPN.com, Yahoo Sports, RealGM, Sportscenter...etc. Damn the media and the Rocket hating.
good news that the charges were dropped but i couldn't care less if he smoked weed. i'm sure t-mac lights up every now and then. either way, i constantly forget this guy was on our team. it seems likely either we package him in a trade or we release him.
The "throw-in" in the Mike James-Juwan Howard trade. He's the forgotten man. When he was acquired, people were hopeful about him the way they are now hopeful about the Jackie Butler guy from the Spurs...
