With almost half the season past us, who WILL survive and get paid next offseason and who SHOULD be here? DeMeco Ryans - Leader of the "D" having a standout season. Owen Daniels - Having an all-pro year putting up great numbers. DRobinson - Slowly coming around with solid CB play. I assume only 2 out of these 3 will be here unless the un-capped year changes everything? I say Ryans and Daniels gets paid and DRob is shown the door as he can be replaced the easiest via Free Agency or the Draft.
Demeco and Owen should get their contracts. Robinson hasn't shown s*** this season since his little tirade. Don't let the door hit you on the a**, Dunta.
Dunta is not worth top 20 money...and since he thinks he deserves top 2...good bye. Ryans, we need. He is too big of a piece of the puzzle to let him walk, specially with the defense (crossing fingers) improving. OD...this is a tough one. Without a doubt, he is a big, big asset on offense. He has shown me a lot more this year, than in years past. I feel like every game, he is making a huge catch, whether its for a 1st down or a TD. I think a lot depends on what we want to do with our cap. I do think that Casey as a back up might give us some degree of flexibility. This is a tough one. Do you sign a pro bowl player and continue forward or do you spend that money on the defense and hope Casey comes in and does a good job? I think Casey has the potential, but he also needs to get the experience. So, as I stand...DRob needs to go. Ryans needs to stay. OD...I would love to have him back, but I also think that we wouldnt be in terrible shape if he doesnt come back.
DeMeco is a no-brainer. Give him what he wants. OD deserves to be paid and we'd take a hit losing him, but I'd think long and hard before giving him top 2 or top 3 money. Winslow absolutely blew up the scale for TE's last offseason. I could see OD being franchised for sure and maybe traded later if and when Casey matures into a producing TE. I think they'll make Dunta a solid offer, but it won't be anymore than we offered last year (and maybe a little less) ... then Dunta gets offended and leaves. Then maybe we could take the money and sign a good DT and take a corner high in the draft. Quin and Reeves can hold it down in the meantime.
Would say Dunta goes. Even though TE might be the more replaceable position, Dunta's Pay Me antics has soured his image too much. And I'm not usually into that. Plus Demeco and Daniels have been performing at actual Pro Bowl levels earning it on merit anyway. Not top 18 performance.
OD and Ryans will be here. DRob is asking for too much money. Quinn and McCain have been playing well and if they lose DRob they'll probably draft a CB in the first round. They cannot afford to lose Ryans, they have ZERO depth at the LB position. Ryans is the heart and soul of that Defense. OD is playing like the best TE in the NFL, but they have Casey behind him, and he looks like he could be a player. I would love for them to give him some more playing time. to see what he can do against good competition.
I'm for one didn't want keep OD for his money but the dude just makes plays and is really now our #2 pass option now over Walter now. Also ponder this question too...do we keep Walter as well?
I hope so. Walter is a far superior blocker than Anderson, Davis, and Jacoby. Also, DA and Davis are more suited for the slot, and Jacoby still has a lot to prove. I think there is a place for all of these guys.
Owen Daniels 7 games played, 39 rec., 497 yds., 5 td Dallas Clark 6 games played, 38 rec., 485 yds., 3 td He didn't say Daniels IS the best TE., he said he's playing LIKE the best TE. The difference between OD and DC isn't that much. Daniels is at least in the conversation for the top 5 TE's in the business.
While I know Clark has had his bye week already, he still has 2 fewer TDs than Owen (receptions and yardage are about the same). While one could argue that Clark has played better than Owen up to this point, I don't think you could make your point strongly enough to just come out and state that what he said was a false statement.
Agree with every post. =) I'll just add Bob mcnair's quote: "Win and you will get paid." And out of those 3, Drob's departure would not be that heart breaking of a lost, would still want him but not at an inflated price.
Demeco is the heart of the defense, he stops 4-5 yard plays from turning into 10-15 yards gains in the run game and on short passing. So you keep him whatever it take plus the chemistry between him and Cushing is electric right now, both guys are playing hungry to one up each other. Daniels is another keeper, he is our version of Wes Welker, an all-round guy who is excellent at making catches in traffic and causing havoc for the defense to cover. He is the go to guy when Adnre is cover in the secondary. A TE like that is very hard to replace, so pay him the money. Dunta is overpriced, should be let out. Not worth his price and can be easily replaced in the upcoming draft with a ton of talent. Also our secondary is the weakest link in our defense so the whole thing has to build from scratch via free agency and drafts and no point in overpaying when you can better allocate the money for upgraded safeties. 2010 draft should be corners and safeties in the first 3 rounds. We are getting exposed too often by the likes of Vernon Davis running the exact same route multiple times over the middle and our safeties look confused.
Sign all three. Corners are hard to find and Dunta is still solid. He probably priced himself out of his last deal offered by the club. If he wants more than that, see ya'!
This team absolutely needs Demeco and Daniels. Dunta, I would prefer to keep, but not for what he wants. I think Owen Daniels is an essential part of our offense. Without him, we are not nearly as unstoppable. Demeco Ryans simply IS our defense. We absolutely need him. I wish we'd lock them both up right now. Looking back at last year, I wish we could go back and somehow pick up Jairus Byrd(like a few people wanted, and if I remember correctly, our staff kind of wanted). Our defense would be crazy young/good with a ball-hawking safety. Kid's already got 5 interceptions and has only played in three games for Buffalo.
I don't think drob deserves the money, but those of you saying cb is easy to replace are crazy. I think a CB is probably the hardest position to fill.
