I think DWI laws are too tough. I think I actually drive a little safer when I am a little buzzed cause I am so scared of the cops. I think that small judgment you lose is made up by watching out for the police.

I have read those last two sentences at least five times. It doesn't make any sense, literally to me.

I'm going to guess that you're one of the many many people (including me on occasion) who necessitate said DWI laws. Yet somehow I have a feeling that you've been necessitating that law tonight.... Call it a whim.

I understand where you're coming from but there is a very fine line between being buzzed and being tipsy. There is another fine line between being tipsy and drunk and driving under those conditions. DWI laws are a necessary "evil" for people with that very logic. The fact is people don't know theie limits, especially when their judgement has been clouded by a drink or two.

The point is...always drive sober and pretend like you've had a couple drinks in you. The roads would be a much safer place if everyone did that...

There's your "feeling" and then there's the mountains of evidence to the contrary. This is why I HATE driving at night on the weekends.

You can get locked up after a couple of drinks.

    It's worth taking a cab.

Im not sure how blood alchohol content works. For example if you are 6'5", 280 or 5'6" 120 does it make a difference breatherlizer wise how much you have had? Or 5 drinks for a pro compared to 2 drinks for a modest? I don't think the actual legal limit test can take that into account. And I dont care what anybody says, it DOES matter.

But if the DWI laws are less tough, then you wouldn't be as scared of the cops, and you wouldn't be driving extra careful when you're um, buzzed.

Wow good point! That said, I can kinda understand what the original poster was trying to say. If I have ANY reason to be EXTRA paranoid about cops, whatever it may be, a headlight that went out, some weed, expired stickers, no insurance, illegal immigrants, etc etc,, Then I am going to be on my BEST driving behavior..

I've mentioned this on several occasions. DWI laws curbed everything in the 80's. But now everyone (including Jeff) wants to demonize everyone in Houston that wants to go out.

90's= Cops would follow you home

00's= Cops get a bonus when they bring in people.

What better way to make everyone hate cops??? Gee, I dunno.

Here's a brazen thought. Let's let the cops not get bonuses, and just let people get home. We all know this is just another Texas money-grab.

Or Better Yet, lets not let all the drunk people out at the exact same time to drive home at the same time (2 am). the most ridiculous law I've ever seen/heard of.

that stupid law has always irked me. you've 90% of the people coming out of one club at least half drunk. multiply that by 100 (being conservative of course) and it's got the makings for an accident ridden night.

    it's called a designated driver...not that hard.

I mean, of all the laws to complain about, DWI's being too tough is not one of them.

Right. It's just soooo easy to get one of your friends to go out and not drink.

EDIT: Tell ya what Jay, you can come out with us if you don't drink. That way, you can prove us all wrong.

Call a @#$! cab when you're drunk. It's not that hard. It would be fine if it were just your life you were risking, but you're taking chances with the lives of others, and that's not ok. Thousands of people die every year in drunk driving collisions.
