I gotta renew my driver's license in person (it's expired and I can't renew online). I'm gonna have to take the eye test, and I kinda want to study up on it. Do they still use the same eye test equipment that they used 20 years ago? If not, what is the equipment like now? Are there any web sites that can help me ... ummm.... study.. maybe cheat a little for this?
I hate to say it droxford, because I respect you, but I think you should probably pass it legitimately.
i probably won't have a choice. I've been googling this and I haven't found anything. and... you respect me? I've always kinda had the impression I'm not tremendously popular here.
Anyone with proper vision should be able to pass the test. As far as I know, the test is basically similar to the normal test that is done at optometrist. You look through some device and read the letters and numbers to them.
You're allowed to renew an expired license online as long as it has not been expired for two years. If you renewed your license in person last time then it shouldn't be a problem. Check your license renewal notice from the DPS to verify. If you still need to renew in person the minimum vision requirements for Texas is 20/40 in at least one eye. Here's an online eye chart from Kentucky to help you determine whether your vision may be a problem or not.
Ah ha! thank you. I passed that test. maybe I won't have to cheat, right? ... still a little nervous, though.
I'm in NC not TX. I had to renew last December and I too was dreading the vision test because I had zero confidence that I could pass it. Looked into that little box thing and identified all 5 things. Good to go; surprise!
Why are you so concerned? Is your vision to the point where you may need corrective lenses and you don't want to get them? If that is the case, do you think it is a good idea to continue to live your everyday life without glasses/contacts?
I don't think you have to worry. My grandmother had to get her eyes checked for a license renewal on her 80th birthday. She's had cataracts removed in both eyes and is blind as a bat. My dad took her up to get the test in the hopes that they'd deny her license... NOPE, she passed!
so THAT was the smell at LIVE... Pass it properly. Don't cheat. I love lamp. I love droxford. I love carpet.
What I was told is you have to renew in person every 12 years (every other renewal). So if you renewed online last time, you have to wait in line. I failed the DPS eye test and had to see a doctor. I was cleared to drive without glasses. My vision is the next one below 20/20. I thought maybe it was the machine, so for fun I tried the DPS eye test again, and I couldn't do it. I don't know what is up with their machines and my eyes. I'm going to a different location next time. I thought about skipping the doctor and going to another location, but I was afraid if they typed something into the system and you got caught trying to avoid the eye test you might get into trouble.
Passed the eye test, no problems (and no cheating). Maybe I'm not as blind as I thought. Thanks for all the luv, people!
This thread makes me a little nervous about how well my fellow drivers can see. Careful out there, everybody!
