Ok, having this debate with someone on a Lakers board that claims Drexler is INFERIOR to Kobe. So if ya could take one who do ya choose, and who do you feel has had a better career so far?

I'm going with Clyde. I think it's unfortunate that he played at the same time as Mike because folks don't really appreciate how good he was. I think he was a more efficient scorer than Kobe, a better (and more willing) passer, a better rebounder and all of his defensive numbers are better. He also turned the ball over less. I know he only has 1 title, but considering that he carried another team to two Finals and finally won once he got his stud center, I have no doubt that he could have won with Shaq similar to Kobe.

That's one of the problems with Jordan's shadow.

I think Clyde would have been considered the top player of his era, during his time with the Blazers, if Jordan hadn't been around.

    Clyde was an amazing talent.

the problem with Clyde is he isn't clutch. well, at least i don't remember any clutch shots in his career. the only game winner i remember is the 3 point bank shot he hit for the Rockets. does he even have any memorable buzzer beaters? also, i don't think he's a better scorer or defender than Kobe.

let's not forget that horrible "last" shot he took in game 6 against Utah.

Clyde was a better all around player, and played well with others. Kobe is a more dominant scorer. Ide take the team player anyday.

How far has Kobe (in his prime) gone in the playoffs w/o Shaq?!

Clyde made it to the Finals to face Jordan, before even making it to the Finals (again) with Dream.

Clyde even has a nickname, and got it when that meant something. What's Kobe's, "Franchise Killer", "81 and out", "I'm sorta like Jordan"?

Please, Clyde "The Glide" Drexler all the way.

Clyde was a team player and an all around player. Also he has achieved alot more on his own than Kobe has. But, when Kobes career ends, then it will be interesting to watch what he has achieved, it could be better than Clyde stats wise, so its too soon to tell. But for now Clyde is the best, i mean come on Clyde is in the all time greatest players list....when Kobe gets there then we can compare.

    Two I recall:
Versus the Nuggets, shortly after he was acquired (Dream and Max were out, IIRC)
Versus the Sonics, game 6 or 7 in the '96 series.

As an individual talent, Kobe is superior. As a leader, Drexler is much better. Classy professional and contributes in every aspect. While he was with us, he was arguably the best we had at running the offense and getting everyone involved. Also a strong rebounder as a swingman.

I love #22 (who had a better playing career than post...) but, hey, Kobe is up there in the pantheon of greats.

Clyde is not quite the greatest, just an exceptionally excellent ballplayer who made the Finals thrice and got ringed once.

I'm thrilled to have had him as a Rock, and got thrills watching him play.

You could have a Dave Jamerson or Kobe thread, and most fans here would probably say Jamerson.

    Objectivity isn't a bad thing.

So only Clutch players are the best???? So he made 1 bad shot, that makes him worse?? Then i can say that Kobe choked during final game against Phoenix and that makes him the most horrible player and then he complains about his teamates and people calling him selfish so he was trying to pass more....excuses excuses. When have u seen Clyde do that? Clyde has always brought his best and played like a leader and has achieved alot more than what Kobe has. Kobe does not even belong in Clydes status or any of the all time greatest players list yet.

kobe never put a team on his shoulders and took them to the finals like drex or iverson. kobe had to have a superior player on his team to do that, drex needed that player (hakeem) late in his career to win it all, but in his prime drex made it to the finals solo. :)

most importantly drex never quit on his team like kobe did last season.

drex is a better player and a much better person.

    "Objectively" speaking...

Drexler's career efficiency rating is 22.42 over 15 seasons
Bryant's career efficiency rating is 21.37 over 10 seasons

Drexler's career versatility index is 8.9 over 15 seasons
Bryant's career versatility index is 8.2 over 10 seasons

Kobe has had 5 total seasons with versatility index of 9.0 or more.
Drexler had 7 consecutive seasons over 9.0...10 overall.

Drexler's greatest effeciency rating was 28.87.
Bryant's greatest effeciency rating was 28.02.

Drexler was the best player on a team he lead to the Finals.
    Kobe was not.

But most importantly, Drexler did all this WHEN DEFENSE WAS ALLOWED.
Kobe has played his entire career in the post-defense era, circa nineteen kenny smith getting his a$$ handed to him by derek harper ninety-four.

I'm all kinds of objective... :D

no, one shot does not make him worse. the question is who do you choose for your team. to me, Kobe is more likely to take me to a win than Clyde given the same players. it's got nothing to do with anything off the court. what? you think just b/c Clyde is a "nice guy" that he should automatically be better?

People forget how big and strong and versatile Clyde really was... Kobe may score more, but Clyde filled the stat sheet.

I don't know about that. I suggest you go watch the 95 playoff run again and see how many times Clyde carried us through. He seemed more determined to not lose than anyone else on the team.

totally disagree, clyde had a reputation around the league as a clubhouse lawyer, its well-known he didn't get along with barkley, and my lasting impression will be him laughing after the utah loss on the stockton shot. the dude is good at public relations.

    and their barbeque sucks.

Basketball skills aside, Clyde is a genuine nice guy. Kobe is one of the biggest dirtballs in sports.

This is one debate where you'll never get an objective opinion out of me.

I absolutely LOVE Clyde the Glyde.
    I respect Kobe's talent but I can't stand him.

that is a big ole cop out

But Kobe is the flavor of the month
    and
the pride of people who think Basketball started in 2000

    Clyde was GREAT
    All around game
    and
the rule changes help Kobe alot
H*ck David robison put up 71 pts
    so that don't mean jack

    ONE ON ONE
Clyde on Kobe would be something I would pay money to see
I'd put my money on Clyde
