I've got to say, I'm really enjoying what clyde has to say. It's like he's a grandpa, or something, laughing all of the time, kind of senile, Bill talks to him like's he's senile, his voice is soft, not intrusive like Calvin's...I really like it. Keep him! fromobile
I've never hated his broadcasts, but have only listened to him a handful of times I guess... all this season. He's not the best or anything, but he's far from being as bad as others make him out to be. I also liked Van and Calvin - they all do things differently, but I liked all of their styles.
I'll second that. Drexler really has improved noticeably since he first started. I was a big fan of Calvin and Van and I'd have them back in a heartbeat, but I think I can live with Clyde.
the problem with clyde is that he's so bland. Him and Bill just dont have any chemistry together. Calvin and Clyde, now that would be good. The C&C show
Or play-by-play and COLOR guy. Drexler provides no color to the broadcasts. The Astros hired Jim Deshaies, who provides humour and insight alongside Bill Brown. The Rockets hired Drexler, who provides no humour and senility alongside Bill Worrell.
Last night Drexler was talking about he Jazz rebuilding and said "the key is building through the draft and free agency" and he was about to say trades but he caught himself. the guy is terrible.
I still don't like him much...I'm used to his boring, monotone voice by now, but he still has nothing interesting or unique to say. And I can't stand how he says "Bill" before or after everything he says. "That was a monster dunk, Bill." "Bill, Mcgrady is really feeling it now." He never really gets into playcalling or breaking down what the Rockets are doing...Calvin used to practically call the play the Rockets were going to run before it happened. Last season I finally accepted Van as a good analyst...at least he was entertaining. I never thought I would miss Calvin this much when he was here...but you never know until he's gone.
Drexler is OK...he is better than Van Chancellor, but nowhere near as good as cynthia cooper....bring her back Drexler is getting better though, he is growing on me too
The next time Clyde adds something interesting to the broadcast will be the first. You know who might be real good is Matt Jackson of Sportsradio 610
The way the Rocket's season is going, I am not sure that Marv Albert could spice up the broadcasts. If the team was on fire and on a roll, Clyde would be fine. Sports platitudes are all that is expected anyway.
For Real. Clyde just never provides anything insightful whatsoever. I know they can't all be Doug Collins, but damn. They could switch Clyde with a well trained parrot and no one would be the wiser.
Clyde was a great player but he is horrible as a color commentator. I got so tired of listening to him last night that I turned Gene and Jim on the radio and put the TV on mute. He provides no insight at all. He only states the obvious and laughs. It wouldn't suprise me if he once says in order to win we must outscore the opponent. I understand it is his first time but its tough to listen to. Why did they get rid of Van? He, like Calvin, would call out the plays the Rockets would run in critical situations before they did so. He also provided humor b/c of his accent and catch phrases.
I have no problem with Cylde but given to choice of him or Calvin, I would want Calvin back in a second!
Clyde Drexler has a long way to go as a sportscaster...right now he's terrible. He's too gooey nice, is simply a yes man, and is a master of the obvious. At this point he adds no insight at all to the telecasts. I think even Bill will tire of lobbing him powderpuffs D R
All I have to say is this... ------------------------------------------------- Bill: Houston is a very fertile ground for basketball talent Clyde: So fertile, Bill. -------------------------------------------------- 'nuff said...
