    Hey Kelvin...

    You know where you are?

    You're in the jungle baby..

    You're gonna dieeeeee..

The Dream is over, Kelvin. Not solely thanks to you, but if you think for one moment your contract wasn't on the back of Hakeem's mind, you're as dumb as you are lazy.

I believe that Kelvin will step up this year. He might start off slow, but after 20 or so games, he'll find his groove. He's no different than you or I. The sense of urgency is upon him. He knows his day of reckoning has come.

    "You're the man now, dog!"

We will all be surprised by his performance this year.

god i hope so, otherwise, without an DECENT inside presence, we will be dog meat again to the western conference teams.

Cato should have awaken when he got his $42 contract. Oh wait I forgot he just had a CONTRACT DRIVE THEN WENT TO SLEEP (ie Kenny Smith and Sleepy Floyd)

I agree with coma, cato hopefully will step up this year. someone with that kind of athleticism must give us at least 2 blocks.

Well if Cato can play like he did his first year w/us, I guess it wouldn't be all that bad. I know that isn't saying much. But I do recall him having some good games, scoring the in the 20's a few times, I think vs Boston,Phoenix. He did average 8.9 points and 1.9 blocks. If he could duplicate that or up it a bit, I think we'll be alright. Maybe its's coincidence, but He played better that season when he played alot cuz Hakeem missed much of the season. Hopefully now w/the Dream gone, he'll step it up. Big maybes.

Cato, remember last year before the season you said you were gonna be the most dominant center in the league and then immediatly came out and got hurt, don't do that again!

One of my theories regarding Cato, is that he doesn't see himself as fitting into Houston's scheme. At one time, we wanted the center to be an outside shooter, drawing out the other teams's center. Cato can't shoot any further than he can reach and I think he knows it. This theory would indicate that Cato is lazy since he isn't exactly working at showcasing what he can do and get himself traded.

Second theory is that he knew he could never be Hakeem Olajuwon and was intimidated. Perhaps now Cato's mind will clear and he will play his game. Perhaps Hakeem himself but a blanket on Cato's motivation with his own desire to continue to play. However, I think Cato has already been told that he was signed to his long-term, big dollar contract to replace Hakeem.

A third theory is that Cato is a mistake and we just need to move on. Cato has yet to disprove this theory.

I am sure there are other theories.

I still haven't given up on Cato, but if he doesn't step up before we find another starter, he may never get another chance in the NBA, and I believe this to be a fact.

It seemed to me that his first year when he knew He was the man because Hakeem was out for long stretches, he seemed more confident and inspired. Remember that super bowl sunday victory against the Lakers where he blocked Shaq twice the 4th quarter. Last year when he got hurt right away and came back and didn't get much playing time cuz Dream was kicking butt, he looked unmotivated most of the time. Not to say that justifies playing like a wuss. But maybe w/out Dream around he' ll get more into the flow of playing big minutes and play more aggressive and confident. HOPEFULLY

    That's my point exactly.

Cato is now the man, regardless of what free agent center we sign this offseason.

It's all on him. I think he has a mental block where he can't perform if he has to share the responsibilities. Cato is the kind of guy who wants to be the man. And it is under these circumstances where he performs his best. Call it a far-fetched theory if you will, but I've ran across a lot of ppl like him.

Once again, his numbers will impress us this year.

    PG - S. Francis
    SG - C. Mobley
    SF - E. Griffin
    PF - M. Taylor
    C - K. Cato

god, i hate to say it with all the kelvin bashers out there, but he did show a few moments of ability the first few times we saw him. I had some faith in him at one time...I remember him lighting up the chat room with a block or two and we'd (chatters) go a bit nuts. The guy has to have some talent. Like a previous poster mentioned, maybe this is wake up call for him...

Remember, this is the guy who gave us 8 pts, 6 rebs, and 2 blocks a game in only 24 minutes per two seasons ago. I think he can at least duplicate that (barring injuries).

anyone else see the irony that a thread called "cato's awakening" was started by a poster named "coma?"

    ;)

excellent point about cato being intimidated by hakeem. i definitely agree with that one. i just hope cato can form more of a synergistic relationship with marc jackson (or whomever we manage to get).

    Good eye Alanis! :D

Maybe that irony will transcend into a center we won't be embarassed to have on our payroll.

Perhaps we can send Cato to Lubbock for a few weeks of "one-on-one, closed to the media" transformation, er, training.

    I've got faith in cato.
For real, the pressure is on and I think he'll show his brilliance and size once again.
    Lets do this!

Consistency is the key with Cato. We all know that he has the ability to do great things or at least play decently in games but some games his is just pathetic. Hopefully, Steve will take the leadership role and try to fire up Cato and get on him when he doesn't give it his all.

Buff Spd. - you used Irony wrong. Irony is when something occurs that is the opposite of what is expected.

By the way, i live on BUff Speedway.

    i·ron·ic (-rnk) also i·ron·i·cal (-rn-kl)
    adj.
    Characterized by or constituting irony.
Given to the use of irony. See Synonyms at sarcastic.
Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended:madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker.

    Couldn't you say:

Cato's awakening, an ironic thread title for a poster named Coma.

    :p ;)

Cato may never be more than an overpaid bench player. The NBA is full of them. Even if he was a decent player, the Rockets still need to sign a back up. Collier was hurt at the end of last season and is hurt again. We need help in the middle or this team will be lucky to make it to the playoffs.
