Yesterday on ESPN they had the Budweiser Hot Seat Conversation With David Stern. Among the questions he was asked was to name the top 5 players during his reign as commissioner. He named Micheal, Larry, Magic...Shaq and Kobe. I was wondering do yall think Dream should have definitely be on the list of top 5 IN STERNS ERA, or am I just looking through a biased pair of glasses. Also, if yall dont agree with the commissioner's picks, what are yalls choices for top 5 of recent times?

I'd agree with Stern in the sense those are players that have given him a fat wallet in their game, and fan attraction. Skill wise I think Hakeem should of definitely been on there over Shaq, but as far as market revenue is concerned Shaq wins hands down. Shaq is a sportswriters wetdream for quotes on any given day, and has brought in a ton of cash to the NBA.

So skillwise definitely Dream > Shaq.

    Money wise Shaq > Dream.

Well he already has won more championships than Dream... But I agree, Dream should be on top 5 any day over Kobe

The problem with Dream was he did no have the same media coverage here in H-Town as did the others. It wasn't until the first championship when he won the tri-fecta of Defensive Player of the Year, MVP of the year and MVP of the finals that everyone (outside of Houston) said who the heck is this guy? Unfortunately at that point he was long into his career. Now had we won in 1986 against Bird and his Celtics then it would have been a whole other ball game.

I think even Shaq would choose Dream over Kobe...or even Dream over himself.

Then shouldn't Robert Horry be ranked above Dream?

Of COURSE Stern is going to say those guys. There are PLENTY of hall-of-famers he completely left out of that list, but why in the world would a guy trying to pimp a league list only players that are no longer playing? He has to show that the league is exciting and worth watching.

For those who didnt see it he even said before he mentioned any of the names "I am going to piss off alot of players". He named Bird, Jordan, Magic, then stopped and said the same thing above. Dan Patrick pretty much forced him to name 2 more by saying "You just got to name 2 more" and out of the top of his head he said Kobe and Shaq. I mean, unless your a Rockets fan, nobody in their right state of mind would say Hakeem as one of the top 5 players since what late 70's/80's? Dont get me wrong, I would say Dream in a heartbeat, but this is the commissioner we are talking about. This brings back the arguement why Ewing had a better retirement ceramony that Hakeem did.

Why don't you read the second part of my post? Someone asked what Kobe has done, and I merely threw in a point that one can make about what Kobe has doen versus Dream.

That's true, though I think Dream should have been among the retired players he did list.

And he has to mention two guys from the same team. . . and he denied that the NBA was biased toward making the Lakers good. . . hmmm. . . forgive him, just a fraudian slip.

I wonder if David Stern will be saying the same thing if Kobe Bryant ends up getting convicted.
