doom and gloom! doooooom and glooOOOooom!

Does it bother me that other countries don't want our Constitution, form of government or judicial systems? Should it?

As for the economy, reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. The fact is that our economy is about equal to Russia, China and Japan combined. As for the EU, we employ 3/4 or working age pop, while the EU only employs 2/3 and we are 33% more productive per person and the gap is widening, not shrinking http://europa.eu.int/comm/commissioners/liikanen/media/slides/eskills/sld002.htm .

We've got problems, sure. But so does everyone else. It's not so dreadful as some here have presented recently.

Every empire will fall, it is only a matter of time. But the US have only been dominating in the world for about 100 years, that is nothing compare to Roman empire or some Chinese Dynasties, etc. So this empire is probably not even close to coming to an end. But it would be interesting to look up the reasons for the demise of the various empires.

It is somewhat funny to me that the perception of the United States has taken some serious hits in the last couple of years. We're supposed to be evil, "the Great Satan" and all that mess. However, why is it when something in the world goes wrong everyone looks to the U.S. for help (health, food, miltiary aid, monetary aid, etc.). It really gets to me that the perception is that we are bad for the rest of the world. And it may sound wrong but the E.U. and China couldn't fill our shoes and last a single day.

I will agree that the United States has flaws with the system (who doesn't) and that there is corruption within the system (once again not newsflash material). But the system works for us, and I have always thought it funny that other countries wanted to model themselves after our system. Everyone finds their own method for working things out.

Overall, this sounds like another piece of Anti-Americanism at its finest and I'm sure more will be published like it, just getting tired of hearing it all.

Very simple: Lucifer is also known as The Shining One. Remember, he's nothing more than a fallen angel.

    I agree Jared.

Much of the world hates us out of jealousy.

But when they need something/anything who do they turn to? I read a couple days ago that the US has 6% of the worlds population but we pay 25% of the dues to the UN. That does not even include additional aid requested from the UN where the US pays an even higher rate.

6% of the World's populace yet 30% of its GDP.

Anyway, I don't know if you want to get into the recent history of US contributions to the UN, what with the long period of time in which we were in default and such.

This is a great example of the way Al Franken describes the love for America in his book.

Conservatives love America like a 4 year old loves their parents. America can do no wrong, and anybody who says anything bad about America is wrong, and doing the wrong thing.

Liberals love America like adults. They love the nation which has done so many good things, is founded on great principles etc. But they see that America can make mistakes and doesn't mind calling them on it, in hopes of trying to improve it.

Contrary to what the 4 year olds might think that doesn't mean we hate the U.S.

I find a couple of things laughable about this post. The first, and most obvious, is that you use Al Franken as some sort of "expert" on anything. If this were a thread about bad movies, I'd agree, but it's not.

Another is that your argument is basically: All Democrats are educated adults and all Republicans are 4 year olds. The reason this is funny is because given all that's going on right now in our country it seems to me that the one's acting like the 4-year-olds are the Democrats.

Your argument, overall, is ALMOST believable. I understand that many Republicans are 100% gung-ho about America and can't see it doing anything wrong. What you don't see is that most of the "adult Democrats" whom you say love America so much NEVER say anything positive. You say they see good things and wish to improve on bad things. Fine, I agree that there are many who feel this way. But when you look at every protest and see 25 America = Satan signs, I don't thing that's exactly seeing anything positive about your country unless Satan is your idol. All I'm saying is that it wouldn't hurt for you guys to actually say something nice about your country instead of finding ways to blame EVERY world problem on it. Sure, the US does some things it shouldn't but who doesn't? You guys need to start acknowledging the good the US does and maybe people will become more receptive to the changes you wish to see.

By the way, I LOVE how you group ALL Republicans in the immature 4-year-old category and ALL Democrats in the adult category. You're a great poster, so I will assume you let emotion get in the way because you usually aren't one for generalizations.

Conservative/ liberal does not equal Republican/ Democrat. There are plenty of moderates on both sides who see both the good in America and the bad.

    And

Al Franken is as much of an expert as Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter or any other pundit out there. You may not like him or agree with him but his opinion is worth just as much as anyone else’s.
