HAKEEM OLAJUWON, 1994, Houston Rockets 27.3 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 3.7 bpg, 3.6 apg, MVP, Finals MVP Am I saying Hakeem at his peak was better than Shaq at his peak? Yes. Olajuwon is the only all-time great center to win an NBA title without another Hall of Famer on the team. He was defensive player of the year in '94 and averaged 27 points in the Finals, despite the Knicks' smothering defense. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=espn25/greatestseasons/25
That was listing his 1994 season as #18 on the list of the greatest 100 individual seasons of the last 25 years (of all sports). Shaq's 2000 season was #19. Hakeem's 1993 season is a little further down on the list also: 45 HAKEEM OLAJUWON, 1993, Houston Rockets 26.1 ppg, 13.0 rpg, 4.2 bpg, 52.9 FG%, defensive player of year Yes, Charles Barkley was the NBA MVP that year, but Hakeem could dominate both ends of the court. Let's put it this way: the Hakeem of 1993 to 1995 is vastly underrated. kind of a stupid list to make, but nice to see him get some recognition.
How the hell is this #1? If you had a choice to see Michael Jordan in his prime at basketball game and Bary Bonds that year, who would you see? Baseball is terrible. I'm almost considering soccer to be a better sport.
yes A member of the 1994 NBA champion Houston Rockets Participated in the 1992 NBA All-Star Game, scoring two points in four minutes Otis averaged FG % .546 BOARDS 8.20 PTS 14.0 for his career.
Because Barry Bonds is now being recognized as the greatest baseball player of all time, and maybe the greatest athlete. Plus the ESPN 25 thing was written this year, and Barry Bonds 2001 season is much more recent than Jordan's 1991 season. All this said I still agree with you that Micheal Jordan is more amazing to watch than Bonds.
Considering all the problems the NBA has lately, its still about a much better product than MLB. I still can't believe that there is no salary cap in MLB. The Yankees will never be bad. At least there is an attempt to have parrity in the NBA. Plus, basketball players are much superior athletes. I mean fat dudes like Tony Gynn can win the batting title. Fat dudes can pitch and really old dudes can still play the game. I'd rather watch a game of 5 Juwan Howards vs 5 Kwame Browns than a whole MLB game. Barry Bonds?? This is the best guy MLB can produce? He's not a fan friendly guy, I dont see him doing Sprite commercials. Where is he on the read to achieve program. And yes, this dude is on roids. I remember Barry Bonds on the Pirates. no way this dude got this big that fast. Also everyone in MLB is on roids. Basketball players smoke for fun, but they dont take anything to enhance themselves. Thank god for football cause I can't take a summer of just baseball.
One thing that list is REALLY missing is Wilt Chamberlain. Look at his 61-62 season: PPG: 50.4 RPG: 25.7 FG%: .506 It's crazy to not have that on the list.
"As ESPN celebrates the past 25 years in sports, Page 2 celebrates those athletes who transcended their teams and sports, who amazed us with the greatest individual seasons over the past 25 years."
