What a joke. Sam Smith's NBA Report Apr 23, 2000 Hakeem Olajuwon has talked about finishing his NBA career in Vancouver. Maybe he will. Are the Rockets interested in Bryant "Big Country" Reeves? There's talk the Rockets, if they cannot deal Olajuwon, might buy out his contract to leave more playing time for the young players. "Obviously, there's a concern about his health status, whether he can or can't come back," said owner Les Alexander. "We're going to discuss it and see how he feels over the summer, see if his condition has been relieved. If his health isn't there, then we have to determine what we want to do." Umm, no, I'll pass on the Reeves. Someone in Vancouver said the team was gonna unload Othella, and Reeves, and was gonna try and use Abdur-Rahim as extra bait, because they're switching to a guard oriented lineup ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
If they added Abdur-Rahim, plus other extras on our side, I say, hell yeah! But only if that! ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in late May, for now visit www.eesite.com)
Oh please! Big Country for the Dream? What kind of crack are these guys smoking? Let's just buy the Dream out and move on. He needs to work on his "Houston Hotshots" advertisements. ------------------ Bring It!!
Big Country makes $11M per year?!?!?! And people complain about Juwan Howard? Big Country has got to be the BIGGEST outrageous contract flop in history. Any bigger flops you guys can think of? ------------------
Well, he's a center. He had 2 straight 16 ppg seasons. What mystifies me is his BPG. He rarely averages over 1 per game. He's got potential, in college he averaged 20 ppg, and 9.5 rpg, and he's big and wide. I'd still say Juwan Howard at 15 million is a bit worse, considering he has no true position (not quite strong enough for PF, not quick enough for SF) and only averages 15 ppg, makes him a mega bust. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
I do not want Reeve's simply because of his contract. Bad contracts have hurt this team too much in recent years. Even if they threw in Othella/Abdur-Rahim I wouldn't do it. ------------------ We're going to miss you Chuck! Thanks for all the memories!
hehe, but this deal won't be as bad. According to NBATalk, Abdur-Rahim is locked up till 2005. On Bskball.com, it's 2004 For Reeves, NBATalk says till 2003, Bskball.com, says 2004. If NBATalk is right, here's who is a free agent in 2003, when Reeves would be dumped (according to bskball): PJ Brown, Mourning, Allan Houston, Corey Maggette, Rip Hamilton, Darrell Armstrong, Juwan Howard, Mitch Richmond, Elden Campbell, Jonathan Bender, Antonio Davis, Francis, KT, Sczerbiak, Odom, Shaq, Googs, Kidd, Marion, Jermaine O'Neal, Steve Smith, Scottie Pippen, Gary Payton, and anyone who signs a 3 year contract this year, a 2 year next year, or a 1 year after that. If bskball.com is right, here's who is a FA in 2004- when both Reeves and Abdur-Rahim are allegedly FAs: Jayson Williams, Geiger, Kemp, Wesley Person, Sura, McDyess, Van Exel, Kevin Garnett, (Reef, Reeves), Rasheed Wallace. Plus all the people who sign contracts that expire that year..... ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Reeves gained too much weight over the years . He is so freakin Fat they changed his nickname to Bryant"Supersize Country" Reeves This fool is CBA material at least I wouldnt trade anyone for him ------------------ DR
never liked him as a player and never will , this fool has some great CBA potential and thats probably overexagerating it. ------------------ Thanks Hakeem for all the memories and the 2 championships... The torch has been passed... Francis , the making of brand new great memories for us rocket fans !
The only way this would be beneficial to the Rockets is if it help free up cap room. Hakeem is eating up a good chunk of it next year and I doubt he will play much. Reeves has his moments but doesn't have the skills to be a All-Star. There are worse centers out there that are starting for some teams. Anyway, I don't think this will ever happen. ------------------
Even though Hakeem is nothing like he used to be, has that huge contract, and breathing problems he is still better than Reeves. I don't like having Hakeems big contract but if he retires, or the Rocks buy out his contract then it would still effect the salary cap. If the Rockets have to pay him at least get a farewell tour for it. Plus if Hakeem wants to help the team he should restructure his contract to something less expensive. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN
MAAAAAN!!! i can't belive theyre STILL talking about Hakeem going elsewhere. the guy said it before....HE WANTS TO FINISH HIS CAREER IN HOUSTON!!! when the HELL did he say anything about Vancouver?? i mean....WHY VANCOUVER ANYWAY?? i dont think the Grizzlies would want a big ass contract of a legend retiring next year. Hakeem's NOT going anywhere, and if the Rockets lose it and DO trade him, he'll probably go ahead and retire. he will never play for another team. (remember Toronto?) ------------------ Dream's Team!
I recall Dream saying in I think Vancouver's first year, in the Chronicle, that he wouldn't mind ending his career there. That was about 5 years ago though. On Reeves-Would I do Hakeem for Reeves? Not a chance. But, you put Abdur-Rahim into the mix, and I'll trade just about anything. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Regarding Olajuwon's comments: He said that he would "like to end his career in Vancouver if he couldn't in Houston." This is mainly because he enjoys the climate (hell, who doesn't in the summer, but the rest of the year, no thanks!) and because Vancouver has a rather large Muslim community. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" I thought it was funny -- taking old Hakeem comments out of context and making them sound like they speak to a current situation. The only thing I can think of is that the guys in Chicago still haven't quite figured out what to do with themselves in the offseason since Jordan retired and they aren't in the playoffs. ------------------
hey oakdogg the worst contracts in the history of nba are not big "continent" reeves or juwon howard. But I'd say jim mclivane and jayson williams of the nets. Yeah jason is a good player, but a 100million+ for an often injured guy who can barely do anything but rebound is just plain stupid. and mclivane i think has a 50million+ contract for averaging like 1.5 blocks. im not a 100 percent sure about these figures but i think they are pretty accurate. ------------------ Now introducing the starting lineup for your Houston Rockets: Starting at Center, from Wake Forets TIM DUNCAN...
Sam Smith is just throwing things out there , there is no chance what so ever that Vanc. would ever do something like that , why would they ? I don't think so unless they were totally desperate to unload some salary cap but at what expense ? I dont' thing Stu J. is that dumb. ------------------ Thanks Hakeem for all the memories and the 2 championships... The torch has been passed... Francis , the making of brand new great memories for us rocket fans !
I have a question ... Am i missing something here; why would someone want Hakeem and his nice fat contract when he can bearly play anymore?!? and this was not suppose to be a diss on Hakeem, so don't even bother replying if your going to flame me. ------------------
Pure speculation on behalf of Smith. No quotes, no 'inside sources say' or anything. Just very poorly rendered speculative crap. Remember how many people it took to get Pippen traded with his contract? No different with Hakeem. ------------------
